Paul Krebs: Building Communities From the Ground Up

A Life Shaped by Hard Work and Construction.
Paul Krebs grew up around construction. He wasn’t just watching from the sidelines—he was part of the work. Born in Birmingham, Alabama, Paul started working at just 13 years old alongside his father at Krebs Engineering. It wasn’t an easy job, but it built the foundation for the rest of his life.
“My dad believed in hard work,” Paul says. “He put me to work early, and I learned every piece of the business.” That early start shaped Paul’s strong work ethic and deep technical knowledge. It also sparked a lifelong passion for building.
From Military School to College Track Star
Paul attended Riverside Military Academy as a teenager. There, he sharpened his leadership skills and discipline. “It wasn’t just about schoolwork,” he says. “It taught me how to lead and push through challenges.”
Later, Paul attended Auburn University, where he ran track for the school team. Sports became a big part of his life, teaching him perseverance and teamwork. “I’ve always believed in staying active,” Paul says. “Whether it’s sports or business, you have to keep moving forward.”
Launching Paul Krebs Construction in 1967
In 1967, Paul started his own company—Paul Krebs Construction. He was just 30 years old. “I didn’t wait around for the perfect moment,” he says. “I just went for it.” The company began with small projects but quickly grew. Paul’s hands-on experience and licenses in utility engineering, utility management, and water treatment allowed him to take on bigger jobs.
He developed mobile home parks, apartment complexes, and entire neighborhoods. “I like projects that improve how people live,” Paul says. “It’s not just about buildings. It’s about communities.”
Success in Utility and Infrastructure Projects
Over the decades, Paul tackled projects many others wouldn’t touch. From complex water treatment systems to infrastructure repairs, his company became known for getting tough jobs done.
“You can’t fake experience,” Paul explains. “You have to get your hands dirty and know every part of the process.” His projects shaped entire neighborhoods and towns throughout Georgia and beyond.
An Active Life Beyond Business
Paul isn’t all business. His personal life reflects the same energy he brings to construction. He once played semi-pro rugby for the Birmingham All Blacks. He also enjoys tennis, windsurfing, bicycling, and daily workouts.
“I’ve always been drawn to physical challenges,” he says. “It keeps your mind sharp, too.” That active lifestyle helps him stay focused in his work, even after decades in the field.
Giving Back Through Community Projects
Paul’s success hasn’t just benefitted his company—it’s helped the wider community. He donated land in Hinesville, Georgia, for Krebs Park. Today, it’s a vibrant community space with basketball courts, pickleball courts, tennis courts, a skate park, a dog park, and walking trails.
“I wanted to create a space where people could enjoy life together,” Paul says. “A park isn’t just land. It’s where memories are made.” He also donated land for a local pet rescue and is a long-time supporter of Mayo Hospital. “I’ve been lucky in my life,” Paul says. “It’s only right to give back.”
Lessons From a Lifetime in Construction
Paul’s story isn’t just about buildings—it’s about grit, vision, and community. With over five decades of experience, he’s seen the construction industry change—but some things never go out of style.
“Hard work never goes out of style,” he says. “Neither does honesty.” He still leads by example, working alongside his team and sharing advice with young builders.
“If you want to last in this business,” Paul says, “don’t cut corners. Know your craft. And always think about the people who will live in the spaces you build.”
Why Paul Krebs Stands Out in Construction
Paul Krebs stands out because he’s built more than homes—he’s built lasting communities. His story shows that success comes from steady work, strong values, and a willingness to take risks.
“I never thought about quitting,” he says. “You just keep showing up every day and doing your best work.” That simple, consistent approach has defined his life and career. And it continues to shape neighborhoods across the Southeast.
