Exclusive Interview With Stephen J. Cloobeck

Stephen J. Cloobeck. I am sure this is not the first time you are reading about him. Stephen J. Cloobeck, a self-proclaimed, fiscally conservative and socially responsible Democrat, is running as a candidate for Governor of California.
Prominent figures such as Senator Cory Booker, President Bill Clinton, Robert Shapiro, and several others, have praised Cloobeck for his desire to lead reform in what he calls California’s broken state.
Cloobeck is entering the political discourse as the USA Today bestselling author of Facing Hard Truths: How Americans Can Get Real and Turn Our Nation Around (Disruption Books).
In Facing Hard Truths, Cloobeck focuses this proven business acumen on some of the most pressing national concerns like immigration, crime, the cost of living, and the coarsening of political discourse. He offers sometimes tough – but always sincere – lessons learned over a lifetime of public and private sector experience.
Cloobeck’s engaging storytelling and straight-shooting proposals leave readers feeling heard, respected, and above all, eager to set aside political differences and get to what really matters: creating an America that is more affordable, livable, and opportunity-rich for all.
Stephen J. Cloobeck took a break from his demanding daily life and gave an interview for CEOWORLD magazine, focusing on some points that are worth reading.
Q: What does leadership mean to you?
Stephen J. Cloobeck: Leadership is about responsibility. Leadership is about respect, responsibility, and results. It’s about being able to execute, being accountable, and enforcing rules, regulations, norms, and laws.
Q: In your new book, Facing Hard Truths, you put integrity first in the list and fostering social trust last. Is there a reason you compiled the list like this?
Stephen J. Cloobeck: Because integrity is the most important aspect of one’s character. Without integrity, you bust their trust.
Q: Do you believe that American society is willing to face hard truths and bring a change?
Stephen J. Cloobeck: American society always ends up having to face hard truths because that’s what keeps our great democracy going.
Q: Which was your hardest time as a businessman?
Stephen J. Cloobeck: The hardest time as a businessman was dealing with the unknown, for example 9-11 or the financial crisis of 2008 and 2009.
Q: What would you advise new entrepreneurs in order to succeed in today’s American world?
Stephen J. Cloobeck: Get up early. Stay late. Go to work with a runny nose. Understand there is a DEI, discipline, education, and integrity
