Engineering the Future of Safety: How Shireen Bojja’s Rare Expertise is Powering Smarter Infrastructure.

Shireen Bojja

In a field where less than 1% possess her level of specialization, Shireen Bojja stands out. As an Engineering Manager, she brings unmatched precision to power electronics design, systems engineering, and product safety ensuring the technologies behind public safety are not only innovative, but also built to last.

Shireen Bojja, is an award-winning entrepreneur, public safety power electronics expert, researcher and author with a distinguished career in electrical engineering. Through her company, Voltek Ace LLC, Shireen serves businesses primarily in the United States. As an Engineering Manager, she provides expert guidance in power electronics design, systems engineering, design for manufacturing (DFM), and product safety certification.

Shireen earned her Master’s in Electrical Engineering from California State University-Fresno with a focus on power electronics and RF subsystems, as well as a separate Master’s degree in Business Administration, a Master’s in Engineering Management with a focus in Systems Engineering and a Certified BABA expert (Build America Buy America).

The Early Years: A Passion for Engineering

After graduating in 2011, Shireen’s career took off when she landed her first job in Silicon Valley at Trimble Navigation, a global leader in industrial GPS and navigation technology. Trimble’s high-tech solutions catered to industries like geospatial surveying, heavy highway infrastructure, marine, military, and agriculture, and Shireen worked as a hardware electronics design engineer on cutting-edge projects. Her notable contributions included the GPS-CAT MS992+ for Caterpillar dozers and 900 MHz radio technology for heavy highway infrastructure projects. The MS992+ ruggedized GPS receivers and navigation electronics are integrated into Caterpillar dozers for machine control in heavy highway infrastructure projects where precision and accuracy are non-negotiable. This dual antenna system has centimeter accuracy. Additionally, the performance is consistent even in terrain with debris, obstruction and vibration, making it the most desired navigation hardware for construction environments.

Finding Her Niche: Power Electronics and Public Safety

Her early involvement in heavy highway infrastructure initiatives served as a stepping stone into a specialized focus on ITS (Intelligent Transportation Systems) projects for the United States Department of Transportation (U.S. DOT) alongside major industry leaders. Through her expertise in power electronics focused towards public safety, she has developed technologically advanced systems for use by the traffic industry. The impact of her work is evidenced by the adoption of her contributions by major agencies, including Florida DOT, Caltrans, Georgia DOT, and several metropolitan transportation agencies.

Founding Voltek Ace, LLC: Bridging Engineering and Business

Her time in Silicon Valley not only solidified her technical expertise but also planted the seed for a future that would combine engineering and business strategy, a vision that would later become Voltek Ace, LLC. In 2022, Shireen founded Voltek Ace marking her transition from a technical expert to a business leader. Her goal with Voltek Ace was clear: combine cutting-edge engineering with business strategy to create solutions that were not just technically superior but also market-driven.

Two of Shireen’s most impactful innovations include the development of the Graphene Hybrid Supercapacitor (GHSC) and advanced algorithm-driven calculators GPRC and TBTC, designed to optimize backup time for energy storage systems in traffic infrastructure. The TrafficGuard TBTC (Traffic Backup Time Calculator) was created to improve accuracy in estimating runtime for emergency power systems using conventional batteries at traffic intersections. To drive the environmental sustainability campaign, the SuperPower GPRC (GreenPower Runtime Calculator) was developed to support emerging green technology energy storage.

In collaboration with Agile Energetics Electronics, a California-based manufacturer aligned with Build America, Buy America (BABA) requirements, she led the development of Graphene Hybrid Supercapacitors (GHSC), a next-generation, environmentally sustainable energy storage solution tailored for the traffic sector. GHSC offers an ultra-long cycle life, non-toxic composition, and delivers a substantial return-on-investment (ROI). The GPRC app is for use with the GHSC modules and it provides runtime infographics in seconds. The GHSC and GPRC app have already achieved commercial deployment, with multiple state and federal Departments of Transportation agencies integrating the technology into their infrastructure modernization initiatives.

Her strategic approach has not only positioned Voltek Ace as a leader in this specialized domain but has won her the Stevie® American Business Award 2025. The company has also earned recognition under the “Made in California” initiative, affirming its dedication to local manufacturing, innovation, and long-term impact.

A Legacy of Innovation and Leadership

Shireen Bojja’s journey is a powerful example for future generations, particularly those entering STEM fields. Her work in power electronics comes at a time when the industry is facing a steep decline in qualified experts. As the talent pool shrinks, her leadership and innovation stand out as both timely and essential. Her relentless pursuit of excellence, strategic business mindset, and commitment to innovation make her a true trailblazer in public-safety power electronics.

Through Voltek Ace, LLC, she is not only shaping the future of power systems focused towards the ITS and Traffic industry, but also inspiring the next generation of engineers and entrepreneurs to break their own barriers.

Because when talent meets determination, the sky is truly the limit.
