How Technology is Changing Logistics: The Implementation of Innovative Solutions in the Transportation Industry – Tetiana Kondratenko’s case

Tetiana Kondratenko

North American transborder freight increased by 2.1% in February 2025 compared to the same month in 2024. According to the data presented by Bureau of Transportation Statistics, total transborder freight between the U.S. and North American countries Canada and Mexico reached $131.6 billion. Trucks moved $86.6 billion of this freight, up 3.9% compared to February 2024. What role do new technologies play in the development of the modern transport industry? We talked about it with an expert Tetiana Kondratenko.

Tetiana Kondratenko is a Ukrainian-born business executive with a diverse international background in logistics, banking, and entrepreneurship. She holds a Bachelor’s degree in Communications and Journalism from Mykolaiv National University in Ukraine, and later expanded her expertise in the U.S. with diplomas in Business Administration and further studies at Oakton College and DePaul University, where she is currently pursuing a degree in Real Estate.

Now based in Illinois, Tetiana leads two companies – Tanchik Corp. and Tanchik Transportation LLC – focusing on strategic growth and operational excellence. Her cross-cultural perspective and academic foundation in both Eastern Europe and the U.S. position her as a strong bridge between global markets and innovative business practices.

Tetiana Kondratenko is the winner of Cases&Faces Award – associated with Tanchik Transportation LLC, she was recognized as Best Entrepreneur in “Transportation” category. She is also the author of several scientific articles on international vehicles transportation and road freight transport market.

What was the main motivation for implementing new technologies in your business?

Our main goal was to improve efficiency, reduce costs, gain a competitive edge, enhance customer experience, and support scalability. We strived to streamline operations, automate repetitive tasks, enable data-driven decision-making, and stay relevant in rapidly evolving markets.

What technologies did you implement first? What is your priority: speed of implementation, cost, or potential for increasing productivity?

GPS tracking, telematics systems, and route optimization algorithms were implemented first to provide real-time vehicle location and route optimization. In addition, to minimize delivery times and fuel costs by calculating the most efficient delivery routes. Potential for increasing productivity is the top priority because faster, more reliable deliveries mean more completed jobs per day and better customer satisfaction.

How do you assess the role of automation and artificial intelligence in the development of transportation logistics?

AI algorithms analyze traffic, weather, and road conditions in real time to determine the most efficient delivery routes. IoT sensors and AI track vehicle performance to predict maintenance needs before breakdowns occur. Machine learning models predict demand spikes and optimize cargo loads.

What changes can we expect in your industry over the next 5-10 years?

Over the next 5 to 10 years, the logistics industry is expected to undergo major transformations driven by emerging technologies. Artificial intelligence will play a central role in enabling dynamic routing and load balancing, allowing systems to respond in real time to changing conditions. At the same time, the expansion of automated warehouses and the use of robotic systems for loading and unloading will continue to streamline operations and reduce manual labor. Autonomous delivery vehicles will gradually be introduced, particularly in controlled environments where conditions are predictable and manageable. Logistics will evolve into fully connected ecosystems, with AI coordinating activity across fleets, warehouses, and customers seamlessly. Additionally, the broader adoption of blockchain technology will enhance supply chain transparency, increasing trust and traceability at every stage.

What key improvements in efficiency have you noticed after implementing new technologies in your business? Could you provide specific examples?

Since implementing new technologies, we’ve observed significant improvements in operational efficiency across multiple areas. For example, delivery times have been reduced by 15–20%, particularly in urban environments, thanks to real-time rerouting that helps avoid traffic congestion and road closures. Fuel consumption has also dropped by up to 18%, largely due to smarter routing and a decrease in idling time.

Additionally, systems that alert drivers about aggressive driving or excessive idling have helped promote more fuel-efficient habits.

Vehicle utilization has improved by as much as 25%, as better trip planning and reduced idle times have enabled us to get more out of each vehicle. Centralized visibility over all active deliveries has also allowed for smoother coordination and fewer logistical blind spots.

In one fleet, unplanned maintenance events fell by 40% due to early detection of issues like engine wear or low tire pressure – leading to fewer unexpected breakdowns and more reliable delivery schedules overall.

What is your company’s competitive advantage, given the implementation of new technologies?

The implementation of new technologies has significantly strengthened our company’s competitive position in the vehicle delivery and transportation logistics industry. We’re now able to offer faster and more reliable deliveries, supported by real-time visibility and end-to-end transparency throughout the supply chain. Operational efficiency has improved, allowing us to reduce costs while maintaining high service quality. With access to rich, data-driven insights, we’re making smarter, faster decisions that continuously optimize performance. Additionally, our systems are built to scale, enabling us to expand globally while staying compliant with local regulations and industry standards.

What advice would you give to companies that are just beginning to implement technology in logistics?

For companies just beginning to implement technology in logistics, the most important step is to start with clear business goals rather than focusing on the technology itself. Identify the specific problems you want to solve, then choose tools that align with those objectives. It’s wise to begin with scalable, low-risk solutions that can demonstrate value quickly and grow with your needs. Equally critical is prioritizing data quality and ensuring systems can integrate smoothly – poor or siloed data can undermine even the most advanced tools. Avoid trying to overhaul everything at once; instead, take a phased approach to avoid disruption and encourage adoption. And throughout the process, always keep an eye on future developments to stay ahead of the curve and ensure long-term relevance.
