Ranked: The World’s Most Powerful Passports – Global Mobility Index 2025

According to the Global Mobility Index 2025 released by CEOWORLd magazine, Singapore boasts the most powerful passport in the world. Its holders can travel to an impressive 193 destinations without the need for a visa. This ranking evaluates passports based on the number of countries their holders can enter visa-free or with an e-visa, highlighting the mobility afforded to citizens of those nations.

In a notable comparison, Japan and South Korea share the second spot, both providing access to 190 visa-free destinations. This tier of mobility indicates a high level of international standing and diplomatic relations enjoyed by these nations. The third tier features several European countries, including Finland, Denmark, France, Germany, Ireland, Italy, and Spain. All of these allow visa-free travel to a wide array of countries, contributing to Europe’s reputation for strong passport power.

However, it is essential to note that the global mobility gap has widened considerably, drawing attention to inequalities in travel freedom. The disparity is stark when comparing the top-ranked passport from Singapore, which offers access to 167 more destinations without a visa than Afghanistan, which occupies the last position on the index. Afghanistan’s passport permits visa-free travel to only 26 countries, underscoring the challenges faced by its citizens in terms of international mobility.

In fact, out of the total countries assessed in the index, 33 nations ranked higher than the United States, which has historically held a strong position regarding passport strength. The bottom five countries, including Afghanistan, Syria, Iraq, Yemen, and Pakistan, have considerably limited travel options, with visa-free access to only 26, 29, 31, 33, and 33 destinations, respectively. This situation highlights ongoing global issues related to mobility, security, and foreign relations that affect millions of travelers around the world. gap has widened considerably, drawing attention to inequalities in travel freedom.
