Driven by Passion: How Kevin Gyke Balances Leadership and a Love for Classic Cars

Kevin Gyke

Some people build careers. Others build cars. Kevin Gyke does both.

Born and raised in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Kevin grew up with a strong sense of hard work, community, and a love for anything on four wheels. Today, he is a Senior Director, having worked his way up through leadership roles with steady focus. But outside of work, you’re more likely to find him restoring a vintage Mercedes or polishing up a Jaguar for a weekend drive.

We sat down with Kevin to talk about his journey—from cross-country running in high school to leading teams in the business world—and how he manages to keep his passion for cars alive along the way.

A Strong Start in Pittsburgh

Kevin’s early years shaped the path he’s on today. He attended St. Teresa’s for grade school and North Catholic High School, where he made the Dean’s List, was part of the National Honor Roll, and earned a spot in Who’s Who Among High School Students.

“School taught me a lot about consistency,” Kevin says. “It wasn’t about being the smartest. It was about showing up every day and giving your best.”

That same attitude carried him into college at La Roche University. There, Kevin wasn’t just hitting the books—he was also a swimmer and a cross-country runner. Competing in two sports while managing his studies built a strong work ethic that still shows in his career today.

Climbing the Ladder, Step by Step

Kevin’s career path isn’t flashy, but it’s a clear example of what steady progress looks like. He started as a Manager, moved up to Senior Manager, then Director, and now serves as a Senior Director.

“There was no shortcut,” Kevin says. “Every step took time, learning, and a lot of patience.”

For Kevin, leadership is about trust and setting an example. He believes the best way to lead is to be someone people can rely on—not just during the good times, but especially when things get tough.

“You have to stay steady,” he explains. “If your team sees you panic, they will too. Calm is contagious.”

A Lifelong Love for Cars

When Kevin’s not leading teams, he’s under the hood of a car.

“I’ve loved cars for as long as I can remember,” he says. “There’s something special about restoring an old Mercedes or Jaguar. You’re not just fixing a machine—you’re bringing history back to life.”

Kevin is an active member of the Mercedes-Benz Club of America, where he connects with other enthusiasts who share his passion. He’s restored multiple classic cars over the years, carefully sourcing parts and putting in the hands-on work himself.

“Restoration teaches patience,” he says with a laugh. “You can’t rush it. You have to respect the process.”

For Kevin, working on cars is more than a hobby—it’s therapy. It’s a way to disconnect from work stress and tap into creativity in a different way.

Giving Back to the Next Generation

Kevin hasn’t forgotten his roots at La Roche University. Today, he serves on the University Board and as the Vice President of the Alumni Board.

“It’s important to stay connected to where you came from,” Kevin says. “If I can help a student find their path a little faster, or give them encouragement when they need it, that’s worth it.”

He believes that success isn’t just about climbing higher—it’s also about reaching back and helping others move forward.

Lessons from the Garage and the Boardroom

When asked what lessons from restoring cars have helped him in his leadership career, Kevin smiles.

“Patience, attention to detail, and knowing when to call in extra help,” he says. “You can’t do everything alone—whether it’s rebuilding an engine or managing a big project. You need the right people, the right tools, and the willingness to slow down when it matters.”

Kevin’s story is simple but powerful. It’s about discipline, passion, and a deep respect for craft—whether that craft is building a strong team or breathing new life into a classic car.

In a world that often celebrates speed and shortcuts, Kevin Gyke reminds us that sometimes the best things are built the old-fashioned way: piece by piece, with care, patience, and pride.
