HSBC Names Lisa McGeough as New CEO for U.S. Operations

HSBC has officially appointed Lisa McGeough as President and Chief Executive Officer for the United States, with her tenure set to begin on January 1, 2025. In this role, McGeough will oversee all regional business operations and lead the next phase of growth in the United States. She will also focus on expanding the recently integrated Corporate and Institutional Banking division across North America. Based in New York City, McGeough will report to Michael Roberts, who will assume his new position as CEO of HSBC Bank plc and CEO of Corporate and Institutional Banking. Additionally, McGeough will serve as a Director of the HSBC North America Management Board and Chair the HSBC Bank USA Management Board.
The bank highlighted that Roberts expressed enthusiasm about McGeough’s appointment, noting her extensive experience and leadership skills. He underscored the importance of the U.S. market in HSBC’s global growth strategy and conveyed confidence that McGeough would enhance the bank’s operations and foster stronger connections between the U.S. and other regions.
McGeough described her appointment as a significant milestone in her career, emphasizing her eagerness to harness opportunities in the U.S., a key financial hub. She conveyed optimism about collaborating with her team to deliver exceptional outcomes for clients both domestically and globally.
With a career spanning more than 35 years, McGeough joined HSBC in 2021, previously serving as Co-Head of Global Banking Coverage with responsibility for Global Banking Europe. Before HSBC, she held various leadership positions at Wells Fargo over 15 years, including Executive Vice President and Head of International, Co-Head of Corporate & Investment Banking, and CEO of Wells Fargo Securities International Limited, where she oversaw investment banking activities in EMEA.
Meanwhile, HSBC confirmed that Roberts would assume his new responsibilities as CEO of HSBC Bank plc and Corporate and Institutional Banking on January 1, 2025. Roberts will operate from London, overseeing operations in the U.S., Americas, and Europe.
