Russian Billionaires See Mixed Fortunes in 2024

In 2024, Russian entrepreneurs collectively amassed an additional $18.465 billion, with Vladimir Lisin, the principal beneficiary of NLMK, leading the gains. Lisin’s fortune grew by over $5 billion during the year.
Vladimir Potanin, a key stakeholder in Norilsk Nickel, topped the list of Russian billionaires, with his wealth increasing by $736 million to reach $31.8 billion. Lisin secured the second spot with a net worth of $29 billion. Vagit Alekperov, co-owner of Lukoil, ranked third, adding $2.59 billion to his fortune, which now stands at $27.2 billion.
Leonid Mikhelson, co-owner of Novatek, landed in fourth place despite a $2.67 billion reduction in his wealth, leaving him with $24.8 billion. Alexey Mordashov, Severstal’s primary beneficiary, took fifth place, increasing his fortune by $3.3 billion to $24.2 billion.
Andrey Melnichenko, the former beneficiary of Eurochem and SUEK, who stepped down as a co-owner after being sanctioned by the EU in March 2022, ranked sixth. His fortune grew by $1.47 billion, reaching $20.3 billion. Mikhail Prokhorov of Onexim Group followed in seventh place, with his wealth rising by $2.68 billion to $18.4 billion. Mikhail Fridman, founder of Alfa Group, came in eighth, with a net worth of $15 billion after gaining $2.66 billion.
Alisher Usmanov, linked to Metalloinvest and Megafon, experienced the largest decline among the top earners, with his fortune shrinking by $6.34 billion to $14.7 billion. Dmitry Rybolovlev completed the top ten with a wealth of $13 billion, an increase of $1.39 billion.
Among the 500 wealthiest people globally, 25 are Russian. Collectively, this elite group holds a combined fortune of $347.62 billion.
