The Royal Ballet School’s Enlighten webinars offer dance teachers a taster of the tuition they can receive through the School’s acclaimed training. In a one-hour session, participants receive a wealth of insights, advice, inspiration, and support from one of the most acclaimed ballet training centres in the world.

Available worldwide, the webinars make ideal additions to a dance teacher’s continual professional development portfolio. Teachers can partake in the webinars as one-offs or in combination with the School’s British and international Inspire seminars.

Choosing An Enlighten Webinar

The Royal Ballet School offers four Enlighten webinars:

  1. The Healthy Dancer 2: Understanding Flexibility
  2. Postural Alignment With the Franklin Method® 2
  3. Maximising Your Dance School’s Potential
  4. The Healthy Dancer 3: Understanding RED-S in Dance

1. The Healthy Dancer 2: Understanding Flexibility

This webinar focuses on developing dancers’ range of motion. The tutor, Emma Porter, the School’s Training and Access Healthcare Lead, discusses the latest studies and evidence that support best practices in this area.

Porter also highlights strategies that help teachers accommodate students during different phases of their growth and development.

By the end of the webinar, participants are familiar with:

  • The science behind increasing a young dancer’s range of motion.
  • The techniques that can optimise range of motion, taking physiology, maturation, and growth into account.
  • Effective strategies to develop a dancer’s range of motion safely.

2. Postural Alignment With the Franklin Method® 2

This webinar focuses on the different ways of understanding the Franklin Method® and enhancing efficient alignment using its concepts and techniques. The tutor, Sarah Daultry, the School’s Teacher Training Manager, dives deep into this mind-body approach to movement, which uses anatomy, movement, and imagery to enhance body function.

Daultry concludes the webinar with a short practical assessment on the spine’s mobility.

By the end of the webinar, participants are familiar with:

  • Techniques that enhance efficient alignment through kinaesthetic and proprioceptive feedback.
  • How to increase body awareness to improve stability, mobility, and balance.
  • Different types of imagery.
  • Strategies that develop dancers’ abilities to focus and engage throughout the learning process.

3. Maximising Your Dance School’s Potential

This webinar focuses on the strategies dance teachers need to help their businesses flourish. The tutor, Karen Berry, the School’s Senior Teacher Training Manager, shares the guidance teachers need to manage and run a dance school.

Berry is keen to ensure running a dance school is as rewarding as it is challenging for participants. She understands that many dance teachers haven’t received entrepreneurial training before.

By the end of the webinar, participants are familiar with:

  • How to protect the longevity of their dance school ventures.
  • How to make informed business decisions and leverage company-defining opportunities.
  • How to balance artistic integrity with commercial viability.

This webinar is next available on 27 February 2025 at 10.00 a.m. BST or 12 June 2025 at 14.00 BST.

4. The Healthy Dancer 3: Understanding RED-S in Dance

This webinar focuses on relative energy deficiency in sport (RED-S), which is common in aesthetic sports like ballet. The tutor, Emma Porter, who also teaches The Healthy Dancer 2, breaks down everything participants need to know about the result of insufficient food intake and/or excessive energy expenditure in dancers.

By the end of the webinar, participants are familiar with:

  • The signs and symptoms of RED-S.
  • How RED-S manifests in dancers.
  • How to support dancers with RED-S.

This webinar is next available on 13 May 2025 at 10.00 a.m. BST.

The Enlighten Webinar Experience

Described as “informative,” “inspiring,” and “encouraging,” the webinars take place at various times to suit teachers all over the world. Teachers aged 18+ from all backgrounds and of all experience levels book the webinars.

The Royal Ballet School hosts the webinars over Zoom, sharing engaging presentations that make it easy to absorb the information. At the end of each webinar, tutors hold a question-and-answer session to offer personalised advice and support.

The Royal Ballet School caps the number of participants at 30 to ensure tutors can cater to everyone in a webinar.

Webinars are available at £30 each, and booking is now open for 2024/25.
