Chelsea FC Women Names Aki Mandhar as its First Dedicated CEO

Chelsea FC Women has named Aki Mandhar as its inaugural dedicated CEO following a structural reorganization that separated the women’s team from the men’s side. This strategic move reflects the club’s long-term commitment to providing Chelsea Women with its own leadership and resources, ensuring the team has the autonomy to continue its growth and success.

Mandhar will be responsible for overseeing all business operations of Chelsea Women, following an extensive search for the right candidate. With a strong background in media, including leadership roles at The New York Times and The Daily Telegraph, Mandhar is expected to bring valuable expertise to managing the club’s off-field affairs.

Expressing her enthusiasm for the role, Mandhar shared her excitement about joining Chelsea Women at a pivotal moment in the club’s history and in women’s football. She acknowledged the club’s pioneering role in the sport and emphasized her pride in leading the team into a new era with significant opportunities for growth on the horizon.

Chelsea’s recent restructuring signals its commitment to reshaping the approach to women’s football. By positioning the women’s team as an independent entity with dedicated leadership, the club aims to further emphasize self-sustainability and growth. However, the shift also highlights that these advancements could have been achieved under the previous integrated model.

Barbara Charone, a member of Chelsea’s leadership team, expressed her excitement about Mandhar’s appointment, praising her as a talented leader with a strong vision for the future of Chelsea Women. Charone noted that Mandhar’s dynamic approach is expected to unlock the team’s potential, adding that her addition strengthens an already ambitious group.

Mandhar’s role will officially begin later this year, marking the start of a new chapter for Chelsea FC Women. While the direction is clear, it remains to be seen how this latest development will shape the future of the club and its continued success.
