Rocket Companies Taps Varun Krishna As Next Chief Executive Officer

Varun Krishna

Rocket Companies, headquartered in Detroit, has named Varun Krishna as its new CEO, effective September 5th. Krishna, aged 41, will take over from Bill Emerson, who had been serving as interim CEO since Jay Farner’s departure in June.

Farner had retired after 27 years with the company. Emerson, who is the vice chairman of Rock Holdings and a longstanding Rocket executive, has been serving as interim CEO during the search for a permanent CEO.

In addition to overseeing the Rocket Companies’ stable of brands — which includes consumer finance app Rocket Money, real estate brokerage Rocket Homes and title insurance provider Amrock — Krishna will take on a dual role as CEO of Rocket Mortgage.

Most recently, Varun Krishna was executive vice president and general manager of Consumer Group of Intuit Inc., where he oversaw the organization’s consumer and tax products and services, including TurboTax and TurboTax Live. Krishna also worked as senior director of product at PayPal, managing the company’s global consumer product team. Krishna has a bachelor’s degree in computer engineering from the University of Waterloo in Canada.

Rocket Companies founder and Chairman Dan Gilbert called Krishna “a visionary leader with a proven track record of helping consumers achieve financial freedom” who has “delivered innovative, technology-driven client experiences for complex personal transactions in large, fragmented markets.”

Krishna’s experience “aligns perfectly with Rocket’s vision, making him the ideal person to drive growth, strong performance and operational excellence at Rocket,” Gilbert said in a statement.
