Bohinj And Its Lake Await For You To Explore Them

The Bohinj region is one of the best destinations for Slovenian tourism. It is aimed mainly at visitors who are nature lovers. It is located in the northwest of the country and just an hour from the capital Ljubljana. Despite its relatively low popularity internationally, it is often promoted in hiking circles as a real hidden treasure that offers everything the average aspiring nature traveler wants and seeks. This article will show what makes Bohinj so special and why you should visit.

The wider area of Bohinj

The wider area of Bohinj is part of the municipality of the same name, which has just 5,200 inhabitants. The characteristic of this small place is the preservation of a vintage style in the way of its structure but also the daily life and occupations of the inhabitants. Walking around there, you will discover many small villages with wooden houses.

Among the villages, livestock farming and agriculture predominate, with wandering shepherds and tireless herders, there is an exciting attraction for those accustomed to the urban lifestyle of large cities. Since the place is on the opposite side of Lake Bohinj, many legends have been created to justify its strict style.

Exploring the secrets of Lake Bohinj

The lake is the hallmark of the municipality of the same name. It extends across the Bohinj Valley to end at the Sava Bohinjka River. However, it is mainly known for its rich underwater life and the fabulous treasures it hides inside. It has often been the subject of research and offers the opportunity for relevant presentations and tributes in the area for knowledgeable tourists.

At the bottom of the lake, there is the shelter of some rare marine fauna with a prominent presence of brown trout and innumerable different species of mollusks. However, this wetland is considered very friendly to people, and every year plenty of visitors go into its waters to test their abilities in swimming and several water sports.

Getting in touch with nature

The leaders of the province of Bohinj have taken great care of the area to highlight the qualities it can offer to lovers of nature around the world. Thus, this Slovenian “treasure of nature” gives its visitors a wide range of options to be active near nature. The well-maintained hiking trails through magnificent routes await daily for the young hikers and cyclists to cross and admire the tranquility that only nature can offer. In addition, it has many hills and heights that allow both mountaineering and climbing.

Summer and winter at the Mount Triglav

The Bohinj area offers intense activity even to people who like the winter season. In particular, the Triglav Mountain is one of the best sights in the country, and its appearance is even present on the national flag of Slovenia. It is reached both by private vehicle and cable car and offers an impressive number of accommodations, shelters, and huts up to the famous Vogel, the ski resort of the mountain.

Reaching a satisfactory height, one can observe and admire the valley that extends to the shadow of the mountain and the National Park (the only one in the country), both of which bear the name of Mt. Triglav Park. The wider area offers protection to at least 7000 species of animals and 1600 plants and is a top European destination every year for activists and volunteers.

An ideal destination for every taste

The area of Bohinj is an excellent destination for every age and every taste. It combines mountains and lakes, mystery, and contact with virgin nature. Still, it mainly satisfies our primary need as humans to escape from the noise of megacities. This a need that we all understand, but many times we seek it in highly advertised countries and destinations, ignoring much more authentic places, such as this small region of Slovenia in the center of the Balkans.
