The Priceless Value of Reading and the Role of School

The notable value of reading is the motivation to start a journey in the field of knowledge and imagination. While reading, the person comes into contact with a variety of realities. Individuals transform their way of thinking and conceive reality through different perspectives. It is therefore imperative that reading is cultivated from the early age of the individual. If the young child loves reading, they will grow into adults who love traveling using their imagination. They will enrich their vocabulary and expand their intellectual horizons. They will experience in an indirect way different experiences. They will see the world and society of which they are integral members through other people’s eyes.

The sidelining of reading nowadays

Reading has been underestimated nowadays. Younger generations read little. Initially, the role of the school that deters the child from love for the book is also decisive. Education focuses on raw knowledge. The introduction of the student to higher education makes the book a tool for study and examination. Another factor is the dominance of technology and social media. How is it possible for a teenager to love reading when they have not read a fairy tale as a child? The 21st-century toddlers have new challenges to overcome, challenges connected to their ability to concentrate. Reading is built from the first years and strengthens as the person develops cognitively.

Ways to enhance reading

It, therefore, becomes necessary to promote reading from childhood. This will take place through the appropriate attitude from the family initially and from the school afterward. Parents have to control their exposure to television and the Internet. Certain factors undermine the ability of the individual to enhance their mental functions. Screens turn the child and adolescents into passive receivers of low-quality material. Young kids and teenagers often conquer wrong perceptions of the modern world or experience virtual reality.

The role of the school

At the same time, the role of the school is to be transformed into a place of love for the book. The organization of libraries and corresponding exhibitions will help to ensure that the book is not treated as a means of oppression. In smaller classes, the role of the teacher is also catalytic. The teacher can be a role model and convey enthusiasm for reading to the young students. The teacher has to be informed of what is new in the field of literature and to inform its little readers. It is also necessary to promote the digital book. It may lack the magic sense of the classic book, but it cultivates a kind of reading that appeals more to tech enthusiasts.

The role of the teacher

The role of the teacher must be multifaceted. In a modern education system, the teacher is an essential personality that can promote and develop conditions that will contribute to students’ smooth and equal social life, especially those from minority groups. The role of teachers is seen as critical in the new social reality, as it should create a framework of respect for the needs of children.

There are specific strategies that teachers have to implement. To begin with, the creation of a positive environment is essential. The feeling of isolation and loneliness, which can often be found in the psychosynthesis of students, can be eliminated through the help of teachers, developing respect, and limiting phobias. Reading is one of the most endearing means of entertainment. The person who chooses to read finds a valuable friend. A friend who accompanies us and offers knowledge, a selfless “friend” with no demands. It is a relationship in which the foundations are laid in childhood, and the bet is won in adolescence.
