Meat Consumption Αnd Scientific Data
The length of the guts of carnivore animals, like tigers, is short. The guts humans have are quite long, just like the guts of all herbivore animals. Scientists claim that this happens because humans were for many years fruit pickers. In other words, humans have been vegans for most of their history. However, it is notable that during those years, when people used to be nomads and collected fruits, they also consumed a small amount of protein. In this case, we do not refer to the proteins included in seeds like almonds. The fruits they picked from the trees often had worms on them since insecticides were not discovered to protect the trees from them. Together with the fruit, they would eat worms and get the essential proteins. In some places in China, Africa, and Latin America, natives still consume some types of insects.
Apart from these small amounts of proteins, humans only had meat once they started hunting. This is when scientists assume that cuspid teeth appeared on the human denture to help people cut the meat from the animals they got. The denture and saliva would play an important role in digesting the food. Chewing was also an essential process that helped in digestion.
So up to this point, we have long guts, which imply that we are herbivores, and cuspid teeth, which imply that we are carnivores. Looking more carefully into our bodies’ structure could give us more hints regarding what is closer to our true nature. However, these two characteristics are enough to help us understand that humans can equally eat and digest both meat and vegetables successfully, and we would rather say we are omnivorous creatures.
People who support veganism suggest that herbivores live longer than carnivores. They connect this with the fact that they have longer guts, digest food optimally, and eat healthier and more ”clean” food. In addition, there is also the theory that large meat consumption allows bacteria to grow in the guts and cause several known diseases. According to some scientists, the presence of Candida in one-third of the population on Earth is also linked to the consumption of meat. One of the last strong arguments against meat consumption from humans is that meat, together with white wheat products, decreases the PH of the human blood, which intoxicates the body.
On the other hand, a diet that completely excludes meat is believed to lead to certain deficiencies. Some doctors state that meat proteins are better than proteins from vegetables, such as broccoli because the body can easily absorb them. Also, vegans often lack vitamin B12, which can not be replaced and is mainly found in meat. In this case, one has the choice to take supplements rather than eat meat for many reasons.
Many people wonder whether it is good to eat meat or not. This question is answered if we take into consideration two factors. The first factor is the person who adopts a particular lifestyle and nutritious choices. In other words, one will wonder: Is it good for my body to eat meat? The other part concerns whether it is good for others, meaning the animals being sacrificed to offer us their meat.
Regardless of what we decide regarding our food preferences, scientists agree that we overconsume meat, and most doctors advise reducing meat consumption to decrease cholesterol levels. But often, when people turn to veganism, they obtain unrealistic expectations. Even though there are evidence-based health benefits, it is not a choice that will alter one’s life completely. Combining the decrease in meat consumption with working out and adopting a healthier lifestyle will produce more obvious results. The industry of vegan products attempts to convince buyers that this choice can produce outstanding results. The trend has to promise consumers more than it can provide. Veganism has become quite popular, and the nutritious choices of people are expected to change dramatically over the next years.
