5 Points to remember if you wish to make it to a good nursing school

The more difficult task than pursuing education is pursuing a good education. You could attend any nursing school in the world but you might miss out on a great many things if the school is not good. There are other factors, of course, that determine your success as a nurse, but the kind of nursing school you go to does have a significant impact. So, the first thing you must do is to shortlist good nursing schools. But, is that all? Of course not; you will have to make a plan.

Making it to any good university is anything but easy. A lot of time, planning, and resources go into studying and keeping well so that you can achieve your dreams. If you want to become a well-qualified, able nurse, then there is so much you will have to keep in mind. As a matter of fact, I have noted a few of these things you should consider. So, here we go.

  1. Shortlist the nursing schools
First thing is to know where you want to study. Many countries organize national-level entrance examinations whereas there may be nursing schools with their own independent examinations. So, the point is, you will have to research a lot. For instance, many world-class nursing schools can be found in many universities of the United States of America. These include the University of Pennsylvania and John Hopkins University. However, if you want to study regionally, then research local rankings, their entry requirements, and all. The benefit of shortlisting schools is that it helps in channelizing energy as per requirements.

  1. Get a guidebook for nursing examinations
Whichever exam you intend to write there will most likely be guidebooks for students available on those exams. These guidebooks come in various forms and shapes and offer an insight into syllabus, eligibility criteria, admission requirements, cut-offs, model test papers, and whatnot. Of course, you can research online and figure out all these details. Yet, for a more organized approach, a guidebook is a better alternative. Every detail of nursing schools will be available to you.

  1. A strong base in Chemistry and Biology
You can be the most hard-working student but can’t be anywhere in the nursing world without biology and chemistry. It is imperative that you strengthen your foundation in these two subjects. While preparing for the entrance examination, practice as many questions on these two areas. Also, note that there may be nursing schools that conduct interview rounds following entrance examinations. So, do not think that learning by rote will save you because you may have to face practical questions during the interview.

  1. Work on your personal statement to create an impact
In the application form, you will be asked to write a great number of things. One such thing is a personal statement. Basically, you are required to talk about the what, why, and how. Through the personal statement, you will communicate to the reader why you want to join the nursing course, what you have achieved so far and how those achievements reflect on your future as a nurse, and how you will contribute to the nursing school. It is to tell the reader that you have what it takes to be at the school, and you can only do that when you show your personal best. Also, and very importantly, ensure that there are no grammatical errors in the statement. To avoid that, get it proofread by a number of people.

  1. Get strong references to increase your chances
Most universities require candidates to submit references. As the name suggests, they are documentary affirmations that the said candidate is capable of undertaking the program, and the person writing the reference has solid grounds to affirm that. The stronger your references are, the better your chances will be at getting enrolled. However, make sure you do not get these references from people you are personally involved with. Say, your father is a very famous doctor, and you get a reference from him. This won’t look good because regardless of how independent his feedback is the evaluators may not be agreeable to it.
