The world now has 8 people with fortunes of more than $100 billion
The Google founders, Sergey Brin and Larry Page, have joined the exclusive $100 billion club of super-rich people with 12-digit, according to the Bloomberg Index. The world’s 8 wealthiest people together hold fortunes of more than $1 trillion and have added $133.6 billion combined this year.
Larry Page, 48, has seen his fortune increase by $22 billion so far in 2021, to $104 billion, making him the 6th-richest person in the world. Sergey Brin, 47, had a $101 billion fortune – and increase of $20.1 billion this year. Together, Sergey Brin and Larry Page control 51% of a special class of Alphabet’s voting shares, giving them ultimate control of the company’s future direction. They own 11.4% of the $1.55 trillion company.
Jeff Bezos hit the $100 billion mark in 2017 and has seen his wealth almost double since then to $197 billion. Tesla Inc.’s Elon Musk is the world’s second-richest person, with a $183 billion fortune. Bill Gates was the first person to achieve a $100 billion fortune in 1999.
Others in the club are: Bernard Arnault, the majority shareholder of the luxury goods empire LVMH, with $146 billion; Facebook’s Mark Zuckerberg, who is sitting on a $113 billion fortune; and the veteran investor Warren Buffett, with $102 billion.
