Top 10 highest-paid dead singers of 2020

Shortly before 2020 leaves and the new year enters, we present you with the top ten highest-paid singers, who unfortunately are not alive. At the top of the list is Michael Jackson.

  1.  Michael Jackson
    $48 million
    Michael Jackson died in 2009 at age 50. He is recognized as the top-earning dead celebrity for 2020. Jackson holds this recognition each year since his death except in 2012. Most of the profits come from the Mijac Music catalog, one of the most significant and valuable in music.
  2. Elvis Presley
    $23 million
    Elvis Presley died in 1977 at age 42. Elvis Presley left his stamp on rock and roll music. In 2005, Forbes named Presley the top-earning deceased celebrity for the fifth straight year, with a gross income of 45 million dollars. He was placed second in 2006. However, returned to the top place of the list the next two years and ranked fourth in 2009. This year holds the second place in the list mainly due to The Guest House at Graceland and the operation of the Graceland as a museum.
  3. Juice WRLD
    $15 million
    The American rapper, singer and songwriter died in 2019 at age 21. He died soon after the release of his second studio album Death Race for Love (2019), which reached number one on the Billboard 200. His music saw success after his death. For example, Higgins’ first posthumous appearance was on Eminem’s eleventh studio album Music to Be Murdered By on the track “Godzilla”, released on January 17, 2020. Higgins was also included on the title track of G Herbo’s fourth studio album PTSD, released on February 28. Lastly, on March 13, a remix of the single “Suicidal”, from YNW Melly’s debut studio album Melly vs. Melvin, featuring vocals from Higgins, was released.
  4. Bob Marley
    $15 million
    He died in 1981 at age 36. The greatest hits album Legend was released in 1984, and became the best-selling reggae album of all time. Marley also ranks as one of the best-selling music artists of all time, with estimated sales of more than 75 million records worldwide.
  5. John Lennon
    $13 million
    John Lennon died in 1980 at age 40. John Lennon’s wife, Yoko Ono has allocated part of the money to charity. More specifically, she funded the construction of more than 90 schools.
  6. Prince
    $10 million
    Prince died in 2016 at age 57. The number of songs written by Prince range from 500 to over 1.000. The most known album, Purple Rain sold more than 13 million copies in the US and spent 24 consecutive weeks at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 chart. After his death many posthumously projects were developed with great success.
  7. Freddie Mercury
    $9 million
    He died in 1991 at age 45. The year following his death sales of Queen albums went up dramatically. The 2018 biographical film Bohemian Rhapsody was, at its release, the highest-grossing musical biographical film of all time. Mercury was portrayed by Rami Malek.
  8. George Harrison
    $8,5 million
    George Harrison died in 2001 at age 58. The lead guitarist of the Beatles was posthumously honored with The Recording Academy’s Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award at the Grammy Awards in February 2015. A documentary film entitled George Harrison: Living in the Material World, directed by Martin Scorsese, was released in October 2011.     $8 million
    She died in 1962 at age 36. The legendary actress, singer and model is still earning a fortune. The American Film Institute has named her the sixth greatest female screen legend in American film history. The Smithsonian Institution has included her on their list of “100 Most Significant Americans of All Time”.
  10. Nipsey Hussle
    $8million
    Nipsey was murdered on March 31, 2019 outside of his LA clothing store. He was an American rapper, activist, and entrepreneur. His debut studio album Victory Lap was released in 2018 and nominated for the Best Rap Album at the 61st Grammy Awards in 2019.
