Don’t miss the best Christmas ideas (you can do while social distancing)

Christmas and New Year celebrations have traditionally been full of mirth and laughter and good company around. But this year has been, with other things, anything but traditional. With the global pandemic in the form of the coronavirus, every public event has suffered a battering, and with vaccinations still in their early phases of testing, social distancing is still very much the norm as we turn to the 2021 chapter. And as we do, there is still the question of how do we celebrate the holidays with the above predicament thrown in for good measure? Many countries still have lockdowns enforced in some way or the other and international travel is severely limited. So if you have to have any plans for the last week, let them be on a small scale, but more grand. After all, it is the change in the ordinary that gives birth to new ideas. And so, here are some tips to help you get the most out of your holidays in 2020, and give the next year a warm welcome.

Stick to the traditions that matter most to you

Friends and colleagues notwithstanding, what makes the holiday season special is the spirit it brings along with it. It symbolizes a time where you must leave your work life alone and celebrate and relax with whatever little you have. If you are with your family, its probably the best time to bond with them. It’s the essence of the traditions that follow with Christmas and New Year.

Shop online and shop early

With social distancing norms still in place, and although the joy of shopping for Christmas at the store is unparalleled, it would be a good idea to do the online method and do that early, so that your stuff can arrive on time. Whats more, people you care for who are far away from you can still receive gifts and vice-versa.

Host zoom meetings for near and dear ones on the day

Technology is never far away even if you are stranded alone during this holiday season. You can still take part in the laughs and the camaraderie from afar thanks to super-fast internet and video calling apps. Maybe put up the video calling on a large TV and it will appear your loved ones are right with you in the room.

Go on a road trip to a road less traveled

If you have to follow social distancing and if you have to do it in style, a nice road trip might be the answer for anyone looking for a bit of an adventure too. If you would rather spend your holidays alone it would be a worthwhile exercise to travel to some remote place and camp. Of course there are seasonal risks but with proper preparation, it could probably end up being the best Christmas of your life.

Go on a movie/TV show marathon

You are always going to have some sort of a bucket list of TV shows and movies to watch gathered from the whole year, and with your commitments you may never have gotten the time to watch them. But with the holiday season, all that changes. Some have so less planned that they have the entire week of sitting idle at home. If you’re one of those it would be a very good idea to binge on that bucket list and come out into the next year a wiser and more culturally enlightened person.

Perfect time to detox from social media

Another good way to spend the holidays is to get off completely from social media and learn something new. Social media has assumed drug like proportions in modern times and it is always a good idea to take a break from it and peer into real life. Maybe plan for the year ahead, make new resolutions and learn from the past year. The possibilities are endless.

Indulge in some community and social work

There are always some among us who are needier than others. You could organize a drive to donate old clothes, toys and household things you no longer need to people who do. You could probably collaborate with local communities and help them in their mission. Its probably the best way to spread the Christmas cheer and feel good about yourself in the process.
