Best-Performing Cities In China (Based On The Market Value Of Listed Companies)

The market value of listed companies in all Chinese cities totaled more than $12.25 trillion at the end of 2019, an increase of 40% year-on-year. Among them, Beijing’s 597 listed companies had a combined market value of $3.43 trillion, ranking first in the country.

The city of Renhuai in southwest China’s Guizhou Province, came in sixth, with only one listed company of Kweichow Moutai Co., Ltd. The world’s most valuable liquor distiller saw its market value rise by 103% in 2019 to hit nearly US$214 billion. Founded in 1999, Kweichow Moutai is based in Maotai, a small town in Renhuai City in mountainous Guizhou.

Shenzhen ranked second nationwide, with 396 listed companies worth $1.74 trillion at the end of last year. Shanghai, came in third, with its 460 listed companies having a total market value of 7$1.14 trillion. Thanks to the surge in the market value of Alibaba, last year, the total market value of listed companies in Hangzhou city of eastern China exceeded $880 billion, a record high.

The total market value of listed companies in China increased by 40% from $8.65 trillion at the end of 2018 to $12.25 trillion at the end of 2019. Here are the top 10 cities in china based on the total market value of its listed companies:
