Countries with the highest per capita spending on healthcare, 2019

Comparing health spending in the United States to other countries is complicated, health expenditure in the U.S. is around $10,586 per person per year, while the average OECD country spends $4,000 per person.

India, Indonesia and, China were worst off. Health expenditure in India is around $209 per person per year, while Indonesia spends $301 per person. China’s per capita health spending was $688.

The table below looks at how per capita spending on healthcare in the United States compares to other countries that are similarly large and wealthy (based on GDP per capita). The analysis looks at 2019 health data from the OECD Health at a Glance 2019 report. These are the countries with the highest per capita spending on healthcare in 2019.
