The 20 best (and the worst) cities for retirees in the United States, 2019

Orlando, FL ranked as the best city for retirees in the United States for 2019, according to WalletHub, while Tampa, FL and Scottsdale, AZ placed second and third, respectively.

The 2019 rankings placed Scottsdale, AZ in fourth ahead of Miami, FL into fifth; while Denver, CO ranked sixth, and Fort Lauderdale, FL seventh. A new study from the CEOWORLD magazine says the median one-bedroom apartment in Orlando costs $1,310, while the median two-bedroom apartment in the city is listed at $1,470.

Stockton, CA has been crowned the worst city in the U.S. by retiree-friendliness, while Bridgeport, CT, and Warwick, RI placed 2nd and 3rd, respectively.

The 2019 rankings placed San Bernardino, CA in 4th ahead of Bakersfield, CA into 5th; while Newark, NJ ranked 6th, and Fresno, CA 7th. Overall, among the top 10 worst cities for retirees in the United States for 2019, the eighth, ninth, and tenth positions are held by Rancho Cucamonga, CA; Baltimore, MD; and Providence, RI.

The report compared the cities across four different factors, ranging from affordability, activities, quality of life, and health care. The study also assumes that retirees are on a fixed income.
