4 Tips Which Can Help You Publish a Research Paper

Publishing a research paper is a very important activity in the world of academics. While those who are or want to pursue a career in academics usually write research papers, they are also important for those who are engaged in non-academic careers.

The whole point of writing a research paper is to showcase your contribution to the development of the subject area. It is a way of giving a point of view to the world in the form of detailed analyses, which may further inspire research. However, unfortunately, many people do not take it seriously and write papers of ridiculous quality and without any significant consequences.

If you want to make a difference and gain advantage from the said difference, then you must write a research paper which is worth getting published in a reputed, preferably peerreviewed journals. The task is not easy because such journals receive a huge number of entries, and you will have to make sure that your entry stands out and receives recognition.

For starters, you can consider the tips mentioned in this article. Of course, there is so more than what I have mentioned below, but these tips are the basics. Keep them in mind and you will be able to produce good quality, publish-worthy research paper.

Here are 4 tips for the same:

  1. Figure out the area of interest
Do not jump into writing a paper on any random topic without first deciding that that is the topic you want to write on.
It is commonly found among people, especially young researchers that they immediately jump on a topic and without adequate research start writing on it. Such an exercise very rarely produces quality in the output and hence, should be avoided.
Here is what you can do: first check the journals which are reputed and officially recognized, find out the kind of papers they are looking forward to, and then find a topic in that area. Or, you can select a topic first, search for a journal which deals with papers concerning your topic and write.
  2. Know and understand what the journal wants
Every good journal will enumerate a list of requirements to which the entries should adhere. Read them carefully.
For example, a journal may stipulate that it requires not more than, say, 4,000 words or wants the researcher to not engage in a descriptive study. It should stipulate the standard of citation for publication such as Bluebook or Oscola
Journals which have no legitimate background or no adequate quality assessment would publish your paper anyway, but that would not add any value. Good journals keep an eye on the layout, format, and content of the papers, and only the most deserving get published.
  3. Content From Authentic Sources
Mediocre research is relying on whatever you come across in the first or second instance. Research papers can be tedious, and many researchers do not like it as a result of which their research is elementary and content is drawn from or inspired by unauthentic sources.
Good journals pay attention to the sources you have used. Why? Because sources from authentic sources say, a publication by International Law Commission, signify qualitative research and commands authority. But, if you end up using Wikipedia as your major source of information, then your paper won’t get through.
  4. Read, Read More And Analyse
If you really want to contribute to the research community, then you must not solely rely on what you find.
The approach towards research should be this: read about the topic from multiple authentic sources, address both positive and negative views pertaining to your topic, analyze each view and what you have understood from other sources, and then give your own conclusion. Just because a certain well-renowned person believes in something does not mean that it is an absolute fact.
Always keep your mind open to possibilities. Develop a critical mind, which does not readily accept other people’s views without first having research extensively on it. With the help of such an approach, your research paper will very easily outshine others and will be certainly published.

So, repeat with me: Read, Read More, and Analyse!—and you are good to go.
