Things To Do When In Nice, France

One of the most favourite tourist destinations in France is Nice. The city has a picture-perfect location by the side of the French Riviera and the Mediterranean Sea. It is a highly developed city known for its scenic ocean views and lively lifestyle—all of this has contributed to it being crowned as Nice la Belle, which means “Nice the Beautiful”.

Already interested? Of course, you are but before you decide to do anything, it is recommended that you know a little more about the city. In this post, I plan to talk about 5 such things which make Nice what it is. While there are many other things you can do in the city, I believe that these are the ones you must do.

So, let us explore the beauty of Nice through the 5 things mentioned below:

  1. Promenade des Anglais
I do not think that we can talk about Nice without mentioning the charming Promenade des Anglais. Promenade des Anglais is not your regular seaside walk; it is the epitome of the best there can possibly be. You walk along the shore and witness the excitement in and around the place. It was built in the 19th century and has become an indispensable ingredient in the lives of the residents of the city. You can simply relax and watch the seaside views, or engage in various activities.
It is highly recommended that you visit the city in the month of February, which, if you did not know already, is the time of the world-famous, Nice Carnival, which is among the top three major carnivals in the world, aside from Venetian and Brazilian carnivals.Promenade des Anglais, Nice, France
  2. Vieille Ville
This French city will offer you an abundance of visual treats wherever you go. It has maintained gracefully and beautifully its neighborhoods, which will most certainly give you the ‘vibe’. One of the prettiest neighborhoods in the city is Vieille Ville which is a key tourist attraction. It is lined up with authentic French shops and food outlets, has the famous Nice Cathedral, a bustling fruit market among many other things. Honestly, you do not have to be anywhere specifically in this neighbourhood for a proper touristy experience—the entire neighbourhood features colourfully painted buildings, which will give the perfect background to get an awesome Instagram Selfie!
  3. Cours Saleya Market
Cours Saleya Market is a major attraction in Vieille Ville and needs to be mentioned separately because it is that awesome!
Basically, it is a flower and fresh produce market which will lift up your mood when you are here. Here, there are four distinct markets. Of these, the flower market or Marché aux Fleurs is the most famous one. It starts on Tuesday and remains open until the weekend. Also, note that you will also find fruits in this market.
  4. Musée Marc Chagall
Whether or not you are interested in the artistic history of Nice, you should consider going to Musée Marc Chagall, which ranks as one of the most visited places in the city. Musée Marc Chagall, which is also known as the National Museum or Chagall Biblical Message, is dedicated to one of the most renowned painters of his lifetime, Marc Chagall. It houses a range of 17 paintings of the painter, and all these paintings are illustrations of the books of Exodus, Genesis, and the Song of Songs.
Come here—there is no harm in knowing a bit more about one of the most respected painters of all time and his legacy!
  5. Coline Du Chateau
Coline Du Chateau, also known as the Castle Hill, is not your typical palace. While much of the castle is now in shambles, it still offers picturesque viewing options for anyone who comes here. The castle is located on a hill, which you should consider climbing up so that you can get the best views of the city.

If you think that viewing is all you can do, you are wrong. You can come along with your travel companions (if there are any) and enjoy a picnic. Get your best meal and relish the beauty of one of the prettiest cities on this planet from the ruins of one of the most iconic places in the city.
