Here Are The Best Universities In Latin America Which Offer Quality Higher Education

USP - Universidade de São Paulo

Latin America is underrated, especially in terms of education. While most of the crowd aims to go to North America for education, there are so many good educational opportunities in Latin America but we just don’t talk about them enough.

In this post, I am going to help you gain some useful knowledge about good universities in the region, which have attained a global reputation and should be considered sincerely.

Here are 6 of the universities in Latin America (in no particular order) which will offer quality educational opportunities and help you scale up in your career.

So, without further ado, let us take a look at them, shall we?

University of Sao Paulo, Brazil: All hail the oldest university in Brazil, which is also among the top two universities from Brazil—the second one being the one we mentioned at number 5.  The University of São Paulo is a public university and was established in the year 1934. Originally a collaboration among law, Engineering and Agriculture schools, it has now opened new departments and is incidentally the largest university in Latin America. The scale of the University can be ascertained from the fact that it has 70 libraries across its campuses, five affiliated hospitals, two theatres and a TV channel operated by its students. It, also, has its own 24 museums which are visited by thousands of people every year. The only downside is that it does not provide student accommodation. The University of São Paulo was ranked #150 in the CEOWORLD magazine University Ranking: Best Universities In The World For 2019.

The National Autonomous University of Mexico, Mexico: Mexico houses the largest university in entire Latin America—and that is the National Autonomous University of Mexico. It was formerly called the Royal and Pontifical University of Mexico when it was established in the year 1910 by Justo Sierra. The University is amongst the most beautiful educational institutions in the region. What makes it attractive is the fact that its architectural design manifests Mexican history. Every wall of the university represents a period from Mexican history. If this did not interest you, let me tell you that this very university you are reading about is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The National Autonomous University of Mexico (Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México or Autonomous National University of Mexico or UNAM) was ranked #200 in the CEOWORLD magazine University Ranking: Best Universities In The World For 2019.

Pontifical Catholic University of Chile, Chile: There are only two pontifical universities in Chile, and the Pontifical Catholic University of Chile is one of them. It was founded in the year 1888 and has had the privilege of receiving the blessings of the then Pope Leo XIII. The University was originally engaged in programmes concerning physical sciences, law, legal sciences, and mathematics. Gradually, more courses were added such as commerce, technology, and philosophy. It hosts a number of international students and engages itself in a number of national research projects. Four of its campuses are situated in the capital city, Santiago, and it is affordable in comparison to its European and North American counterparts. In case you wanted to know more, its alumni base includes two former presidents of the country. Pontifical Catholic University of Chile (UC) also known as Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile was ranked #349 in the CEOWORLD magazine University Ranking: Best Universities In The World For 2019.

State University of Campinas, Brazil: Brazil is home to top performing universities in Latin America, and one of them is State University of Campinas. It was established in the year 1966, and ever since then, it has attained a global reputation for its academic and research programme. It, especially, attracted media attention during the outbreak of Zika when it came up with a test for the detection of the said virus. The University provides a wide range of courses such as humanities, arts, and nanotechnology. However, it is not easy to get enrolled in this university, but once you are here, there is so much you can do. Also, domestic and international students are not required to pay tuition. In case this does not excite you, know that this is the only university in South America which houses a particle accelerator. University of Campinas (Universidade Estadual de Campinas also known as Unicamp) was ranked #376 in the CEOWORLD magazine University Ranking: Best Universities In The World For 2019.

Federico Santa Maria Technical University, Chile: The country with the brightest and clearest night skies houses one of the most renowned educational institutions in Latin America. Federica Santa Maria Technical University is situated in Valparaiso and stands on the erstwhile grounds of the Pudeto Fort. What adds to its glory is the fact that it was designed by one of the most admired  Chilean architects of all time, Josué Smith Solar. The University has grown a lot ever since its foundation in the year 1926 and now owns numerous campuses. It has become popular among students coming from poorest countries of Latin America, despite it having very strict selection criteria. In addition to this, the degree programmes here are one of the most comprehensive and tedious ones. Federico Santa Maraa Technical University (Universidad Técnica Federico Santa María (UTFSM) or simply Santa Maria University) was ranked #389 in the CEOWORLD magazine University Ranking: Best Universities In The World For 2019.

The Universidad San Francisco de Quito (USFQ), Ecuador: USFQ is a major educational institution in Ecuador which was established in the year 1988. Currently, it comprises 16 colleges and institutes and has three campuses offering a range of degree programmes. One of the main highlights of the university is its main campus which houses one of the most beautiful libraries you would see. If you did not know already, the University holds the crown of being the only university across the globe to operate a campus from the Galapagos Islands, which means that it, also, has one of the most scenic campuses of all time considering how beautiful those Islands are in themselves.
