Steps to Writing an Excellent Essay

For most students, writing essays is not easy. It is time consuming and very few people have a passion for writing. However, you do not need to be a writing expert to write an excellent essay. All you need is a few guidelines to help you in writing the good copy. This article will guide you step by step in writing an excellent essay.

  1. Understand the Requirements

If the topic has been provided for you, you need to study it carefully and understand it. The key to writing a good essay is knowing what is expected of you from the beginning. If you do not understand the essay question, discuss it with your colleagues at school. You can also approach your tutor to help you understand the essay question.

Read and understand other requirements of the essay such as the style of writing, referencing, the keywords and the word count. Understanding the requirements of the essay will help you write an excellent essay.

  1. Make an Outline

Once you have read and understood the essay question and all the writing prompts, make an outline. It helps you plan out your essay systematically to facilitate good flow of ideas. Write down the major points. An outline will make the writing easier and faster.

Use credible scholarly sources to write your essay. You need to use statistics and quotes from credible sources. An example of materials to use are textbooks, academic journal or book from accredited authors among other credible sources.

Now that you have the outline and fully understand the essay question, you can start writing. Start by writing a thesis statement.
