Surprise, Surprise. The United States has retained its spot as the most powerful country on earth, according to US News and World Report’s 2019 power ranking, followed by Russia, China, and Germany.
America snagged the number one spot because it has the world’s biggest military budget and the largest economy, and was described as the “most dominant economic and military power in the world.”
The top ten most powerful countries in the world, according to the rating, includes the US, Russia, China, Germany, UK, France, Japan, Israel, Saudi Arabia, and South Korea.
The power ranking is based on leadership, economic influence, political influence, international alliance, and military strength. Some 80 nations were ranked in total, while there are 193 United Nations member states.
