Five Of The Top 10 Richest Cities In The World Are In The U.S.

Amazingly, five of the top ten richest cities in the world are in America, according to the World Ultra Wealth Report from Wealth-X, as measured by the number of residents worth $30 million or more. The number of people worth $30 million or more – known as ultra-high-net-worth individuals – grew 13% in 2017, to 255,810 worldwide.

With over 10,000 people worth US$30 million or more, Hong Kong overtook the Big Apple to become the world’s richest city!

New York now has 8,865 residents worth $30 million or more, a 7% increase from the previous year. Tokyo, meanwhile, recorded an 11.9% increase and hosts 6,785 ultra-high-net-worth (UHNW) individuals. Los Angeles ranks 4th with 5,250.

Paris took the fifth spot with 3,950, followed by London with 3,830.

10. Osaka

Year-on-year change in population: +7.7 percent

8. San Francisco
2017 UHNW population: 2,820
Year-on-year change in population: +10.6 percent

7. Chicago
2017 UHNW population: 3,255
Year-on-year change in population: +7.1 percent

6. London
2017 UHNW population: 3,830
Year-on-year change in population: +10.1 percent

5. Paris
2017 UHNW population: 3,950
Year-on-year change in population: +17.3 percent

4. Los Angeles
2017 UHNW population: 5,250
Year-on-year change in population: +8.6 percent

3. Tokyo
2017 UHNW population: 6,785
Year-on-year change in population: +11.9 percent

2. New York
2017 UHNW population: 8,865
Year-on-year change in population: +7 percent

1. Hong Kong
2017 UHNW population: 10,010
Year-on-year change in population: +31 percent
