Elizabeth Holmes

Christy Walton unsurprisingly emerged as this year’s richest woman in the United States of America, with an estimated net worth of $38 billion, up from $35.4 billion a year ago.

Interestingly, America’s richest woman on the list, Christy Walton, is also the wealthiest woman on Earth, she married into what is now the richest family in the world (worth more than $150 billion) and inherited her husband’s fortune when he died in a plane crash.

Her sister-in-law, Alice Walton was runner-up — the second richest American woman — with an accumulated fortune of $34.9 billion.

The top 10 wealthiest women on the Forbes business magazine list are worth a combined $169.9 billion, up roughly  8.5 percent from a year ago.

Stanford University dropout Elizabeth Holmes, 30, with an estimated net worth of $4.5 billion.  She founded blood testing company Theranos with her tuition money, which has an estimated value of $9 billion.
