Social Media Ad Spending Will Hit $36 billion by 2017

Global ad spending on social media will rise more than 33 percent this year to $23.68 billion. By 2017, social media ad spending is set to reach almost $36 billion, according to research from eMarketer, with Facebook set to benefit most.

Facebook alone will make $15.5 billion in ad revenue this year, about 65 percent of the entire ad spending on social networks.

Twitter’s ad sales will rise to $2.09 billion, accounting for 8.8% of the market.

The top 3 regional spenders, North America, Asia-Pacific and Western Europe, are individually projected to spend four billion and above in 2015.

On a country-by-country basis, U.S. and China lead the way, spending $9.59 billion and $3.41 billion respectively on social ads this year.

The U.S. and China will lead in terms of social media ad spending “for the foreseeable future,” amassing more than half the global market between the two of them, according to eMarketer.
