Steve Ballmer Close To Overtaking Bill Gates On Rich List

Steve Ballmer

Steve Ballmer’s net worth has surged significantly in recent times, and he may soon surpass Bill Gates in wealth. His estimated fortune has increased by around $31.2 billion this year, reaching approximately $115 billion, making him the fifth-richest person in the world. With a gap of just $5 billion between him and Bill Gates, who currently holds the fourth spot with $122 billion, Steve Ballmer has been closing the gap rapidly compared to $16 billion three months ago.

Ballmer is currently wealthier than Larry Ellison ($114 billion), Warren Buffett ($113 billion), Larry Page ($112 billion), Mark Zuckerberg ($110 billion), and Sergey Brin ($106 billion).

In 2014, when Ballmer retired from his role as CEO of Microsoft, he owned 333 million shares of the company, or a 4 percent stake, as reported in regulatory filings. This has amounted to a position worth more than $100 billion in today’s market, given the current stock price of Microsoft.

If he surpasses Gates, who’s spread his wealth beyond Microsoft stock and made significant donations to the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation and other charitable organizations, it’d be an exceptional occurrence where an employee ends up wealthier than the founder of his own company.
