Groupon, the online deals site, has acquired last-minute hotel booking app “Blink Booking”, the Madrid-based startup – provides same-day hotel reservation in 184 cities across eight countries.
The last-minute travel app Blink Booking will be rebranded as “Blink by Groupon,” and will continue to be run from its offices in Madrid, Spain. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
Blink was founded in 2011, and raised $2.5 million in funding last year from PROFounders and SoftTech VC as well as a number of angels., has been downloaded more than 600,000 times to date – has partnerships with more than 2,000 hotels.
The move comes a few days after San Francisco-based startup , HotelTonight that offers a similar service focused in U.S.A., raised a $45 million investment round.

“The combination of a fantastic mobile app, same-day inventory management for properties and a team that is obsessed with mobile and last-minute travel will help us further expand our travel business as the go-to destination for great deals on great places to stay,” Aaron Cooper, senior vice-president of Groupon Getaways, said in a statement. The Blink app will continue to operate separately, but will be renamed “Blink by Groupon.”
