That’s right, tech billionaire and the co-founder of the microblogging network Twitter, Jack Dorsey wants to run for mayor of New York City. With a net worth of more than $1.2 billion, Jack Dorsey is also the co-founder of Square — the mobile payment system that can turn a smartphone user into a vendor. He has 2.2 million followers on Twitter. He has been called the next Steve Jobs.
Jack Dorsey, said he would like to someday have a billionaire-turned-New York politician Michael Bloomberg’s current job. The mayor has an estimated net worth of $27 billion, compared to Dorsey’s $1.2 billion. Under the leadership of Bloomberg New York City has become one of the fastest growing tech hubs in the United States with over 1,800 tech companies.
During an interview with CBS he explained, “What I love about New York is just the electricity I feel right away,” Dorsey said. “It’s chaos. It’s kind of like being in a car in the middle of a thunderstorm. Everything is raging around you, but you’re safe inside that car. So New York feels very much to me like that.”
While it’s not exactly news — Dorsey admitted as much to Vanity Fair in 2011 — his goal falls in line with Reddit co-founder Alexis Ohanian’s recent call for “more geeks in Congress” and other public offices.
