Wealthiest man and women on Earth 2013 List: Top 25 Richest Billionaires

Mexican business magnate Carlos Slim Helu & family remains the world’s richest by far with a net worth of $73 billion, while Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates again took second spot with $67 billion on the Forbes World’s wealthiest people 2013 List: Forbes magazine.

Amancio Ortega, the Spaniard who founded retailer Inditex, ranked 3rd — moves up two spots from 2012, with a net worth of $57 billion, ahead of Investor Warren Buffett, the head of Berkshire Hathaway with a net worth of $53.5 billion.

A record 1,426 billionaires (up 200 from 1,226 in 2012) made the Forbes’ 27th annual ranking of the world’s billionaires List, with an average net worth of $3.8 billion (up from $3.7 billion in 2012).

The total net worth for this year’s billionaires is $5.4 trillion, up from $4.6 trillion last year.

Most of the billionaires are self-made, 961, while 184 inherited their wealth and 281 inherited part of it and are increasing it.

The United States had the most billionaires with 442, followed by Asia-Pacific with 386, Europe with 366, Middle East and Africa with 103 and the Americas, excluding the United States, with 129.

The number of women billionaires rose to 138 from 104. The United States has 50 female billionaires, followed by 35 in Europe and 22 in Asia-Pacific.
