The Bay of Pigs Invasion (La Batalla de Girón or Playa Girón in Cuba)- April 17 – April 19, 1961, Location- Bay of Pigs, southern Cuba, The Bay of Pigs Invasion was an unsuccessful attempt by United States-backed Cuban exiles to overthrow the government of the Cuban dictator Fidel Castro. Increasing friction between the U.S. government and Castro’s leftist regime led President Dwight D. Eisenhower to break off diplomatic relations with Cuba in January 1961. Even before that, however, the Central Intelligence Agency had been training anti-revolutionary Cuban exiles for a possible invasion of the island. The invasion plan was approved by Eisenhower’s successor, John F. Kennedy.

On April 17, 1961 about 1300 exiles, armed with U.S. weapons, landed at the Bahía de Cochinos (Bay of Pigs) on the southern coast of Cuba. Hoping to find support from the local population, they intended to cross the island to Havana. It was evident from the first hours of fighting, however, that the exiles were likely to lose. President Kennedy had the option of using the U.S. Air Force against the Cubans but decided against it. Consequently, the invasion was stopped by Castro’s army. By the time the fighting ended on April 19, 90 exiles had been killed and the rest had been taken as prisoners.

Kennedy and Cuban Exiles The failure of the invasion seriously embarrassed the young Kennedy administration. Some critics blamed Kennedy for not giving it adequate support and others for allowing it to take place at all. The captured exiles were later ransomed by private groups in the U.S.

Operation Mongoose

Failure at the Bay of Pigs did not deter the Kennedy administration from seeking ways to topple Castro. In November 1961 Operation Mongoose was created to coordinate these efforts. This was not a strictly CIA operation – General Edward Lansdale was tasked with coordinating activities between the CIA, Defense Department, and State Department. The Special Group Augmented (augmented by the President’s brother Robert Kennedy and General Maxwell Taylor) oversaw the program at the White House, and Robert Kennedy played a very active role.

Operation Gold (Operation Stopwatch by the British)

Operation Gold was a joint MI6 and CIA operation to intercept Soviet-block communications in East Berlin during the 1950’s. A 500 metre underground tunnel was dug from west Berlin into East Berlin to intercept landlines running from the Soviet Military and intelligence headquarters in Karlshorst.

Details of the operation were passed by the British KGB spy George Blake (who was asked to liase with the CIA on the construction of the tunnel) to his Soviet controller in 1954, and the Soviets were aware of the entire operation even before it started. None the less, to protect their agent they did not reveal their knowledge of the tunnel until 1956 when they pretended to accidentally discover it.

Project MK-ULTRA, or MKULTRA

MK-Ultra is based on monstrous experiments done by ghoulish NAZI scientists….monsters, stolen off of death row after the Nuremberg Trials by the predecessor to the CIA and BROUGHT TO AMERICA to use deadly drugs of all sorts on unsuspecting Americans in evil CIA satanic ritual experiments.

The Stargate Project

STAR GATE was one of a number of “remote viewing programs” conducted under a variety of code names, including SUN STREAK, GRILL FLAME, and CENTER LANE by DIA and INSCOM, and SCANATE by CIA. These efforts were initiated to assess foreign programs in the field; contract for basic research into the the phenomenon; and to evaluate controlled remote viewing as an intelligence tool.

The program consisted of two separate activities. An operational unit employed remote viewers to train and perform remote viewing intelligence-gathering. The research program was maintained separately from the operational unit.

This effort was initiated in response to CIA concerns about reported Soviets investigations of psychic phenomena. Between 1969 and 1971, US intelligence sources concluded that the Soviet Union was engaged in “psychotronic” research. By 1970, it was suggested that the Soviets were spending approximately 60 million rubles per year on it, and over 300 million by 1975. The money and personnel devoted to Soviet psychotronics suggested that they had achieved breakthroughs, even though the matter was considered speculative, controversial and “fringy.”

Operation Mockingbird

In the late 1940’s, the Cold War was more frigid than ever. It was under this climate that the CIA began to infiltrate and even outwardly control the U.S. News Media. Code named “Operation Mockingbird”, an undercover State Department official, Frank Wisner, recruited Philip Graham, publisher of the Washington Post to direct the program.
By the early 1950s, Wisner owned the New York Times, Newsweek, and CBS. All told, Mockingbird influenced 25 newspapers and wire agencies agreed to act as Pawns of CIA propaganda. Many of these were already run by men with reactionary views, among them William Paley (CBS), C.D. Jackson (Fortune), Henry Luce (Time) and Arthur Hays Sulzberger (N.Y. Times).

Operation Midnight Climax

Operation Midnight Climax was an illegal operation initially established by Dr. George Hunter White under the alias of Morgan Hall for the CIA. The direction of this operation employed the use of prostitutes from the San Francisco area to lure men and then serve them alcohol containing large doses of LSD. These women would then fulfill their financial obligations to the drugged men under observation of CIA personnel through a two-way mirror and taped for later observation. The selection of the men focused on candidates that would be too embarrassed to present the circumstances to the public for fear of exposure themselves.

Project Pigeon (Project Orcon, for “organic control)

Starting in 1942, PROJECT PIGEON aimed to get specially trained birds to guide a bomb within six meters of its target. It worked thus: First, three pigeons would be informed of a glide bomb, each compartment containing a little lens to view its target. Via classical conditioning, the pigeons would peck the center of the screen if it saw the target – otherwise, it would peck towards the target. Successful pecking would be rewarded with grains of seed.

Operation Northwoods or Northwoods

During the Kennedy years, the Joint Chiefs of Staff cooked up a plan to get the American public bloodthirsty enough to accept an invasion of USSR-backed (and therefore nuclear-defended) Cuba. The plan? A false flag terrorist attack against the American public, blaming it on Cuba.

In the early 1960s, America’s top military leaders reportedly drafted plans to kill innocent people and commit acts of terrorism in U.S. cities to create public support for a war against Cuba.

Code named Operation Northwoods, the plans reportedly included the possible assassination of Cuban émigrés, sinking boats of Cuban refugees on the high seas, hijacking planes, blowing up a U.S. ship, and even orchestrating violent terrorism in U.S. cities.

Acoustic Kitty

Cold-War-era cats were surgically altered to become advanced Cold War bugging devices. The idea was that the cats would listen in on Soviet and Cuban meetings from park benches, windowsills and garbage containers. The cat was meant to just walk up to the secret conversations, totally unnoticed. The spy-cat’s electronic internals would then record and transfer the conversations to CIA agents.
