Beyonce knowles, Taylor Swift Lead 52nd Annual Grammy Awards nominees

By Robert J. Steiner for CEOWORLD Magazine Updated:December 3, 2009

Singer Beyonce Knowles is leading the Grammy nominations list with 10. Close behind is teen sensation Taylor Swift with eight nominations. The 52nd Annual Grammy Awards is scheduled to take place at the Staples Center in Los Angeles on 31st January.

The announcement of this year’s nominees suggests voters simply scanned the SoundScan sales chart, then picked whichever stars sold the most CDs.

The domination in the nods by stars like Beyonce, Taylor Swift, Lady Gaga and The Black Eyed Peas clearly shows voters skewing more towards stars with fan-appeal than to those who released the deepest recordings of the last year.

West may have three chances to repeat his stunt, since Beyonce and Swift go head-to-head for record, song and album of the year. Lady Gaga was also nominated in those three categories.

Lady Gaga’s single “Poker Face” and album “The Fame” helped her to five nominations.

Taylor Swift, just days away from her 20th birthday, crossed genre lines to take top honors at the MTV Music Video Awards, the American Music Awards and the Country Music Awards in recent months.

Michael Bublé is usually popular with the Academy, but his new disc, Crazy Love, landed in stores too late to make this year’s shorter, 11-month window for eligibility. The Vancouver crooner will, thus, have to content himself with a nomination for the live album Michael Bublé Meets Madison Square Garden in the best traditional pop-vocal album.
