AT&T Releasing iPhone MMS with Picture, Video Messaging and many more..

By Amarendra Bhushan for CEOWORLD Magazine Updated:September 25, 2009

According to AT&Ts Facebook page, is that  iPhone MMS Update will take place late Friday morning, Still a little unclear, but better than nothing.

Mutimedia Messaging Service on the iPhone will allow transmission of photos, audio files, locations and contacts using the Messaging app. Supporting the service are the iPhone 3GS and 3G, owners of the original iPhone are out of luck.

Why did it take AT&T so long to get this feature working? Most other iPhone supporting wireless carriers have been offering MMS ever since the 3.0 update. According to AT&T, “MMS required us to work on our network MMS architecture to carry the record volumes of MMS traffic and ensure an excellent experience from Day One”.

Although following the most recent software update, some users have already seen the MMS commands on their iPhones, nobody has been able to use them yet. Industry watchers waiting anxiously to see whether the system will crash from all the extra traffic will soon be able to relax. Still to be rolled out on the AT&T network is support for iPhone tethering.

AT&T’s early testing of the MMS feature on the iPhone could also be an explanation of reports last week from a few lucky users that upgraded to the iPhone 3.1 OS and were suddenly able to send and receive MMS messages.

DSLReports notes that AT&T is very nervous about the MMS launch estimating that network traffic could spike by as much as 40 percent tomorrow as iPhone customers begin to send pictures and videos to each other en mass. AT&T is already seeing “record traffic during peak hours of the night” from users testing the MMS feature. The report also notes that AT&T is requesting hourly updates on message delays or problems from its MMS aggregator partners.
