Google Celebrated HG Wells, Father of Science Fiction Birthday With UFO Doodles
By Amarendra Bhushan for CEOWORLD Magazine Updated:September 21, 2009
If you visit Google today, you will notice a very interesting Google Doodle. The Doodle is designed to honor H.G. Wells, whose 143rd birthday would be today. Who is he? He wrote the 1898 classic, The War of the Worlds and is often referred to as “The Father of Science Fiction.”
If you don’t remember or if you just don’t know then we remind you that the search giant unveiled a cool doodle on September 5th which was picturing a UFO that was abducting an “O”. Later on @google tweeted “1.12.12 25.15.21.18 15 1.18.5 2.5.12.15.14.7 20.15 21.19″ which meant “All your O are belong to us” and it represented a tribute to Zero Wing, a Japanese video game.
H.G. Wells, an English author, wrote the 1898 classic “The War of the Worlds” about an alien attack. Many people figured out that Google’s second UFO doodle, which featured crop circles, was also a nod to Wells.
The first Google doodle was a tribute to the Japanese video game “Zero Wing.” That also featured a UFO hovering overhead.
Google has finally explained why they showed the different Google doodles, provided the various tweets, and the details behind the amazing and mysterious HG Wells Google Doodles.
The remaining mystery is why Google should celebrate HG Wells’s 143rd birthday. Celebrating 100 years (or multiples of 100) is normal, and 150 years is an acceptably round number, and Google could have celebrated Wells at 140 … but 143 is odd. It doesn’t even make much sense in binary (10001111) or hexadecimal (8F).
