Denmark promotes sex tourism- Danish Woman Seeks Father of her Child

By Amarendra Bhushan for CEOWORLD Magazine Updated:September 14, 2009

Recession has driven the best to the depths of craziness. A Youtube video purporting to represent a pretty young Danish single mother looking for the foreign father of her son, may have garnered Denmark’s national tourist agency VisitDenmark some 800,000 clicks – but the story behind the video is a lie.

The web is full of videos that pretend to be something they’re not.

The video, however, is definitely ‘Not to be’ – the young woman in the video is a Danish actress and the baby is not hers.

woman holding her small child, claiming that a year and a half ago she had a one-night stand with some man. Karen, 27, later gave birth to a baby boy, August — and she feels she owes it to the child and his father to try and let the guy know. And she mentions how great Denmark is along the way. Karen apparently lives in Copenhagen, and the story goes like this.

One night she was walking home when she ran into — since he’s nameless we’ll call him Mr. X — who had been separated from his friends. Mr. X was on vacation in Denmark, says Karen, and wasn’t familiar with its streets and beautiful women.

Wondering if this will promote ’sexual tourism’ to Denmark? Is that what they want to sell?

  • I just saw this video a few minutes ago and felt pity for this young woman who was using the internet to find the father of her son. I thought it was a very courageous initiative.

But I was shocked to see on google that it was in fact a joke. And I have to admit I despise this kind of humor. We should know that there are women who are in this situation (in the real life) and this video is not helping their situation nor the promotion of Danemark.

I agree with Anders Poulsen on the importance of freedom of speech. But there are ways to use this freedom. Using the despair of people to promote tourism is definitely not a proper way. This is called bad taste.

I agree on the "promoting sex tourism" idea. It is clear that some men will not think about the terrible situation it is but more: Danish women seem to be easy girls. I can only imagine the awkward situations it can trigger for danish women now this video has been made.

I have never been to Danemark and this video is definitely not helping.

I am a Danish woman and I agree that this video "promotes sex tourism" and that it gives a distorted view of Danish women. It's easy for a Danish man to declare that this video represents freedom and liberty, but as a man, I'm sure Anders Poulsen hasn't been stopped by confused tourists in Copenhagen (as I have), who've asked where the prostitutes are and if I was available. Or who would hassle me when walking home alone at night - while I wouldn't be by Danish men. So hurrah, let's get more of that! Danes are blinded by the idea of freedom and liberty, which besically translates into: "you can do whatever you like, as long as you do it our way - which ideally should be boundary crossing."
  • Promoting sex tourism? I guess that is one way to look at it.
How about: Denmark is (as opposed to countries such as Pakistan, Iran and USA) a place where women have the right to choose their own way of living. And can stand proud, not having to hide their face in shame, simply because they choose not to live their lives according to the morals that conservative religious hippocrates try to force on them to suppress them.
We have our share of problems defending our ideals of freedom and equality from the attacks of islamic extremists. But I am a bit surprised to learn that even a seemingly modern country such as USA can be that offended by our liberal ideals. I guess the american idea about freedom and liberty only applies to issues of economy. The exact opposite of us, really. Economically our society is fairly communistic compared to yours.
