Georgian Bank founder and CEO Gordon R. Teel replaced by John Poelker & Don Rolader

By Amarendra Bhushan for CEOWORLD Magazine Updated:July 3, 2009

Gordon R. Teel, Chairman & CEO of Georgian Bank, second-largest Atlanta-based bank has been replaced as chairman and CEO of the $2.2 billion institution.

He will be replaced by John Poelker as CEO, and Don Rolader as chairman of the bank.

Lynn Darby also assumed the role of chairman of the holding company.

Poelker is a 40-year banking veteran, who worked as the former chief financial officer of American General Finance, Old National Bancorp. and BankAmerica Corp., the predecessor to Bank of America.

Gordon R. Teel:

Gordon R. Teel former Georgian Bank’s Chairman, President & CEO. He is an entrepreneurial and veteran executive of small-, mid- and large-sized financial institutions, including successful and highly respected banking and accounting firms.

In 2003, Mr. Teel led a group of prominent Georgia business and civic leaders who invested $50 million in Georgian Bank – the amount is believed to be more than double the previous private placement record for a Georgia-based financial institution. He has transformed Georgian Bank into the second largest Atlanta-based bank, serving Georgia-owned entrepreneurial  businesses, their owners as well as high-net-worth individuals with needs exceeding the capacity of a small bank but who are unable to attract high-priority service from the large banks.

Today, Georgian Bank’s assets top $2 billion and it has more than 190 employees at five banking offices.

Mr. Teel takes particular interest in children’s issues, and serves on the Board of Trustees of Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta, after having completed his term as a Trustee of the CHOA Foundation and his service on the CHOA Campaign Council (capital campaign that raised $294 million). He also serves as a member of the Buckhead Coalition.
