The sudden and tragic death of the world’s biggest and most recognizable pop icon has shot his music to the top of the Internet download charts. Marilyn Monroe, Elvis Presley, Kurt Cobain – their mysterious deaths still evoke immense interest in the world.
Michael Jackson’s business life, like his private and public life, was a mass of contradictions.
The King of Pop’s Michael Jackson is back on top of the charts.
His number Ones album smashed the record for the fastest ever sales in one day – shifting even more than Elvis Presley did after he died.
Neverland, the fantasy home that almost destroyed Michael Jackson, is to be turned into a theme park and shrine to the singer. He nearly lost it last year when he defaulted on a $24.5 million loan.
The 80 million-pound, 2,800-acre ranch, now owned by Capital Colony LLC, could be opened for public as early as next year, reports The Daily Express.
Yahoo! News set a record in unique visitors with 16.4 million UV’s in a day. Its previous record was on election day when Yahoo News had 15.1 million visitors.
On Yahoo.com front page, the story “Michael Jackson rushed to hospital” was the highest clicking story in Yahoo’s history. It generated a whopping 800,000 clicks within 10 minutes and news of his death saw 560,000 clicks in 10 minutes.
Yahoo! Music’s blog post on Michael Jackson generated 21K comments in under a day.
In 1985 Michael Jackson pulled off one of the great deals in music business history when he bought the publishing rights to the Beatles songs catalog for $47.5 million.
Today it is part of a larger collection of songs worth more than $1 billion that he owned in partnership with Sony.
In the last few days his songs have generated millions of dollars in record, CD and DVD sales, downloads and radio and TV royalties.
Jackson was expected to earn $50 million from the London shows.
Google’s list of top 100 search trends in the hours after the news broke was composed almost exclusively of Jackson-related phrases, ranging from “Michael Jackson died” and “Thriller lyrics” to “Neverland ranch.”
On Twitter, Micheal Jackson” quickly surfaced on the site’s list of upwardly trending topics, with hundreds, if not thousands, of new posts referencing either “Micheal Jackson” or the correctly spelled “Michael Jackson” popping up by the minute.
He Won 13 Grammys and sold more than 61 million albums in the U.S
