Well I agree completely but that’s inherent across the entire web, no? The fundamental issue is not the encryption protocol but the manner in which the user approaches it with a complete lack of knowledge. Proven more effective and user-friendly is having extended validation SSL which is more noticeable, i.e., more than obvious signs on a page, neon green urls, certs, step on them and you get a full dialogue of info. More individuals are standing up to take notice and considering id theft, fraud, phishing, maybe MORE education is necessary.

Why are we waiting for Google to catch up—I don’t shop, buy stocks, pay bills, or bank at a site that doesn’t have my best interest at heart. Google see the light.. ?

This story has pretty much been blogged to death…needless to say, those clamoring for better google encryption have more than a simple point, but whether or not https is the way to provide it remains to be seen. One thing's for certain, it would be nice to see google encrypt ALL their log-in processes (on blogger and other sites as well) with extended validation ssl to cut down on phishing attempts. Google has something of a monopoly on the free web service market right now and there's no doubt hackers can harvest plenty of sensitive data from accounts, business-related or not. Https with the green url bar would definitely help this.
