New delays in Airbus A-380; deliveries: Airbus Changes Schedule For 2009/2010
By Amarendra Bhushan for CEOWORLD Magazine Updated:May 6, 2009
European aircraft maker Airbus has changed its A380 delivery schedule for 2009/2010, due to the current economic and aviation crisis and in meeting specific customer requests for the deferrals.
In a statement Wednesday, Airbus said it expected to deliver 14 of the 18 scheduled Airbus A-380 superjumboes double-decker aircraft in 2009 and more than 20 aircraft in 2010.
The A-380 program is already two years late on its original schedule for programs in wiring installation, but the industry already confirmed its production rhythms. So airlines, that were earlier compensated for the production delays, are now forced to renegotiate new delivery times for the slump in air transport demand.
Airbus confirmed that for 2009 it still expects to deliver about the same number of planes as in 2008, when it handed over 483 aircraft. For future production, rates will depend on airline demand and availability of customer financing, the manufacturer added.
