How to: Turn down the Twitter noise and distractions!
By Amarendra Bhushan for CEOWORLD Magazine Updated:December 12, 2008
If you aren’t using Google Alerts, you should be. And believe me, once you start, you’ll wonder why you didn’t start sooner. Google Alerts allow you to track specific news topics, markets, trends, and even mentions of your name or brand. You can set it to alert you as often as you like — but I recommend you stick to once daily.
But what if you are Twitter fan. It’s the first (only?) social media tool that I’ve embraced and stuck with for a serious amount of time. For me, I try and make my posts about things that I want to say that you (or at least someone) might want to hear.
After some careful internet and mind mapping and planning, I came up with a simple mess of how I do things, perhaps it’ll help you if you’re doing the same:
Twitter filtering and threading functionality would be helpful with keeping conversations tightly themed and easier to follow, but ultimately the quality of Twitter will depend on its users and whether or not we have enough self-control to filter out the noise we create–before we tweet it.
If you love FriendFeed and Twitter and so as i do. But sometimes you need to turn down the noise and distractions without tuning out completely. November 21st cosinity http://www.cosinity.com/ released JustSignal – a combined FriendFeed and Twitter application JustSignal allows you to tune Twitter and your FriendFeed and just recieve the signal.
Tracking of Tweets!
TweetBeep is like Google Alerts for Twitter! Put in a keyword or website, and get emails when others tweet it. It’s fantastic, even if you’re not on twitter. You can still see what others are saying and interact with them at your leisure.
All you have to do is enter your Twitter account information, the keyword you want to track, and the email address you want the notifications sent to to keep updated on what’s being said about you, your site, your product, or anything else that matters to you. It even finds the links that include your keyword in the original URL no matter if they’ve been shortened by tinyURL or some other similar service. You can have the tracker refreshed every few hours or every day, depending on how often you like to receive notifications.
Neither Google or Twitter allows you to receive email alerts of tweets that may be relevant to you. Twilert allows you to track the mass of conversation on Twitter and pick out tweeple, conversations and opinion that can affect your brand, product or service.I would encourage you to try Twilert but I would say that as I created it.
Thanks to tools like Twilert, Twilert enables its users to receive regular e-mail updates of tweets that mention their brands, products or services. This way, those who are implementing an ad campaign can gauge its efficacy at every level and act in due time, whereas individual users who want to keep posted on the latest buzz on the Twitterverse are also going to appreciate this service.
twhirl is a social software desktop client based on the Adobe AIR platform.
Basically it’s a desktop Twitter on steroids. Includes posting images to TwitPic, cross posting to your Pownce or Jaiku accounts and you can search your tweets using tweetScan or Terraminds.
Once you have entered your login details for Twitter you then get a separate window showing your tweets for that account. The more accounts you add the more windows open up. You also get 9 different view types from the drop down menu, including timeline, your own tweets and tweets from just those you are following.
TweetDeck is an Adobe Air desktop application that is currently in public beta. It aims to evolve the existing functionality of Twitter by taking an abundance of information i.e twitter feeds, and breaking it down into more manageable bite sized pieces.
TweetDeck enables users to split their main feed (All Tweets) into topic or group specific columns allowing a broader overview of tweets. The default columns can contain All Tweets from your timeline, @replies directed to you and direct messages. The GROUP, SEARCH and REPLIES buttons then allow the user to make up additional columns populated from the live tweet information. Once created these additional columns will automatically update allowing the user to keep track of a twitter threads far easier.
Get ready to take control of your twitterstream. twalala is a client for Twitter that allows you to control what you see, and more importantly, what you don’t see in your twitterstream.
Using twalala, you can filter tweets out of your stream by keywords and phrases or mute individuals who get a bit too chatty. Finally, Twitter with a mute button.
Along comes Qwitter, a nifty Twitter application that will automatically e-mail you whenever someone stops following you on Twitter. This tool is very simple to use, as you don’t have to login or create an account in order to receive e-mail notifications. All you have to do is provide your Twitter username and your current e-mail address.
Qwitter is a new service that notifies you via email the moment someone decides to stop following you on Twitter. The alert includes the last message you tweeted right before you were abandoned by a fellow member. What’s obviously great about this service is that you get a good idea as to why someone may have dumped you.
