VoIP, sometimes called Internet Telephony, IP telephony, or Internet phone, uses your computer’s broadband connection – not traditional phones lines – to make long distance, inter-state or local calls. At a very basic level it is the idea of using a data network to transfer voice between two points. I have often wondered if the hype surrounding the voip revolution was just that, hype. It seemed as if the initial buzz that surrounded the first general availability of voip systems wasn’t matched by the technology.
I feel that there are three major factors that are holding back the wholesale adoption of voip for business. The three factors are security, quality and connectivity.

Of course with this new technology in the market, there are several providers available. The various providers can be compared to find the one that’s right for you. Prices on this service vary and most providers offer a special introductory price that allows you to try the service for the first month. Shop around with the various providers and find the one that fits your needs.

AT&T comes from a background of communications and telephone technology. They specialize in providing this type of service and because of it most of their marketing budget is allocated towards getting customers on board with their VOIP services. A famous commercial from Vonage proudly proclaims that you can now “VOIP with Vonage” for a ridiculously low price. This is followed by testimonials from various people and most notably one man in particular that is pleasantly surprised at how well the quality is maintained, even for long distance phone calls!
