Africa Online’s chief executive officer John P Joseph died in a boating accident

Africa Online’s chief executive officer John Joseph died in a boating accident in Mombasa on Friday, Kenyan newspaper the Daily Nation reported. Joseph, 47, was on holiday when the accident occurred. Details of what happened were not known and his family would like to keep them private. Joseph had been CEO of Africa Online since March 2007.
Africa Online is a subsidiary of Telkom South Africa and Mr Joseph was also a director of UUNET Ltd.
Reacting to the death, Telkom CEO Reuben September said, “John was an invaluable member of our team, a larger than life character who had been integral to establishing and building the Africa Online brand and developing a portfolio of service offerings across all segments in nine African countries.
“We are deeply saddened by his passing and on behalf of the company; I would like to convey my deepest condolences to John’s family and friends, as well as staff at Africa Online.”
Before ascending to the CEO position at Africa Online, Mr Joseph had occupied various positions at Telkom since 1995. In 2000, he was tasked with establishing Telkom Wholesale Marketing.

Mr John Joseph was appointed Chief Executive Officer of AfricaOnline on 1st April 2007 Former he was the Marketing Executive for Telkom South Africa’s wholesale market segment. John has been with Telkom South Africa in various positions since 1995.

1989 – 1994 Armscor – Senior Project Engineer – Telecommunications Division
1983 – 1989 Eskom/Westinghouse/Gilbert Associates – Instrumentation Engineer
He holds an MBA from Bond University, and an Electronic Engineering degree from the University of Cape Town, amongst other engineering and business qualifications.
