Is Rob Schoeben accountable for the MobileMe operations failures?
By Amarendra Bhushan for CEOWORLD Magazine Updated:August 8, 2008
I read about this MobileMe messss everywhere,. But i don’t see why Rob Schoeben would take responsibility for the MobileMe launch mess. He’s vice president of applications marketing. He goes to trade shows to market Apple’s applications software. Why would he be responsible for operations failures?
Rob Schoeben reported to Sina Tamaddon who reported to Jobs. Rob Schoeben replaced by Eddy Cue who reports directly to Jobs. The apparent lack of communication between levels was eliminated with the new assignment. Hope any lack of communication between levels does not cause future launch problems. Now who is reporting who?
What a mess. Steve why don’t you hire a good HR consultant?
In an internal e-mail sent to Apple employees, he admitted that MobileMe was launched too early and “not up to Apple’s standards. It was a mistake to launch MobileMe at the same time as iPhone 3G, iPhone 2.0 software and the App Store.., We all had more than enough to do, and MobileMe could have been delayed without consequence.”
Can anyone please let me know what parameters of Apple’s standards are?
“The MobileMe launch clearly demonstrates that we have more to learn about Internet services,” he says.
Here you go. Brave statement!
Apple is one of the best companies, but there are areas that are mastered by others. E.g. synchronization between mobiles, web and PCs has been provided for FREE from Microsoft more than a year now. It synchronizes emails and contacts. Just use Hotmail, Windows Mobile 6.0 and Outlook connector and you’re done. Recently, they added Calendar as well. More over, if you have your own domain, they can host the email for you for FREE. I still love Apple and but use my VAIO TZ.
