Emirates, gets first Airbus A380 superjumbo jet. signed for 60 more Airbus jets in $13 bln deal

Middle Eastern airline Emirates has signed a letter of intent for 30 more A330-300 aircraft, and 30 A350 XWB aircraft with EADS NV unit Airbus worth $13 billion at list prices.Emirates, which on Monday was taking delivery of the first of 58 Airbus A380 superjumbo jet.

- July 28, Airbus SAS, the world’s largest planemaker, delivered its first A380 superjumbo to Emirates
- the biggest customer for the aircraft
- The plane is scheduled to make its inaugural flight for the airline from Dubai to New York’s John F. Kennedy International Airport Aug. 1
- It will be the first airline to use the A380 commercially in the U.S.
- Airbus, Toulouse, France crossed Boeing Co.’s sales at Farnborough International Air Show this month, winning more than 60 percent of the total $64 billion in orders.
- Emirates will be the second airline, after Singapore Airlines Ltd., to operate the A380.
- Emirates chairman and chief executive Sheikh Ahmed bin Saaed Al-Maktoum signed the letter of intent for the new aircraft with Airbus CEO Tom Enders at the delivery ceremony for the first of the 58 A380 aircraft Emirates has on order in Hamburg, Germany.
- At current list prices A350-800 XWBs cost $199.3 million and A330 family aircraft cost over $170 million.
- Emirates A380 will offer the lowest fuel burn of any A380 or other aircraft, at 3 litres per passenger per 100km.
