Shinzo Abe, Emmanuel Macron, Donald Trump, And Kim Jong Un Top Time’s Most Influential People 2018

Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe, French President Emmanuel Macron, and the US President Donald Trump are among Time magazine’s 100 Most Influential People of 2018.

Per tradition, each honoree has a few lines written about them by an equally famous peer. Australian Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull wrote about Shinzo Abe, applauding his leadership style “as a statesman, he is both resilient and pragmatic, recognizing that the prosperity and security of our region depend on maintaining and developing the rules-based international order.”

Christine Lagarde, penned the feature on Emmanuel Macron, writing that “challenges abound. Migration, terrorism, climate, digital transformation, and inequality are forcing new fault lines on our societies. But based on the policies he has implemented to date, I am convinced that Emmanuel Macron can help create the multilateral solutions that will make the planet a better place for all.”

Macron is among 24 people in the Leaders category — the other categories are Pioneers, Artists, Titans, and Icons. He’s joined in that category by Satya Nadella, Donald Trump, Justin Trudeau, Xi Jinping, Leo Varadkar, and Kim Jong Un.

Jennifer Lopez was named in the Icons category, which also includes Rihanna and Kesha. Other big names that made the overall list include Masayoshi Son, Oprah Winfrey, Elon Musk, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle and Virat Kohli.
