These Are The 10 Best Universities In The Mediterranean Countries, 2018

France beats other Mediterranean countries hands down when it comes to top universities, according to the latest rankings compiled by Times Higher Education (THE). France is home to SIX of the top 10 Mediterranean universities, followed by Italy and Spain.

Ten Mediterranean universities made the top 200 in an influential ranking of the world’s 1,000 best institutions, Paris Sciences et Lettres (PSL Research University) tops the Mediterranean rankings, at No. 22.

École Polytechnique took second place in the 2018 ranking, followed by Pierre and Marie Curie University, Pompeu Fabra University, and Autonomous University of Barcelona.

Other universities named in the Mediterranean top 10 were Scuola Superiore Sant’Anna, Paris-Sud University, École Normale Supérieure de Lyon, Scuola Normale Superiore di Pisa, and Paris-Sorbonne University – Paris 4.

The comprehensive global rankings assess institutions on several factors including teaching, research, citations, international outlook and industry income.

  6. Scuola Superiore Sant’Anna (Global rank: #155) – Italy
  7. Paris-Sud University (Global rank: #181) – France
  8. École Normale Supérieure de Lyon (Global rank: #182) – France
  9. Scuola Normale Superiore di Pisa (Global rank: #184) – Italy
  10. Paris-Sorbonne University – Paris 4 (Global rank: #196) – France

Other Mediterranean countries Gibraltar, Monaco, Slovenia, Croatia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro, Albania, Greece, Turkey, Cyprus, Syria, Lebanon, Israel Egypt, Libya, Malta, Tunisia, and Algeria had no elite research universities in top 200.

Oxford is the world’s best university, according to the ranking.
