World’s 20 Most Prestigious Universities In 2017 That Scholars Perceive As The Most Reputable

Harvard retained its number one position as the most prestigious university in the world, according to an annual ranking by the Times Higher Education (THE), with MIT in second place, and Stanford in third.

The fourth and fifth positions are held by the University of Cambridge and the University of Oxford. UC Berkeley, Princeton, Yale , UChicago and Caltech followed, making up the top ten list.

Harvard has produced 47 Nobel Laureates, 32 heads of state and 48 Pulitzer Prize winners; and, 8 of the school’s alumni went on to serve as president of the United States.

The United States dominated the study with 42 of the world’s most prestigious higher-education institutions in the top 100 list.

Overall, Universities in Asia accounted for 23 of the top 100, with the University of Tokyo placing 11th.

Rounding out the top 20 are the University of Tokyo, Columbia University, UCLA, Tsinghua University, University of Michigan, University College London, Peking University, Imperial College London, UPenn, and London School of Economics and Political Science in the United Kingdom.
